Ibs or just anxiety

Hi all,

Thank you for all of your previous replies and comments and I may be repeating myself but-

I've been on sertraline 100mg for apx 8 weeks, this has def helped but still get anxiety in the morning generally and sometimes throughout the day but not as bad. However for the last 3 weeks I've been having what I think has been ibs symptoms ( had on an off for a couple of years ) but this flare up has been the longest..

odd cramp ( not too bad ) but a fair bit of gurgling in tummy and belching and gas, feel generally have a bm once a day ( which varies between soft/ diarreah ( sorry for spelling and tmi) and firm/ constipated but my question is does anyone else feel the urge to go shortly after again ( but can't ) or just that maybe I haven't emptied bowel this is driving me mad... I'm on mintec peppermint pills and I've taken a sample to docs ( awaiting results ) but my health anxiety is starting to rear its ugly head again and I know anxiety and ms can both aggrevatete ibs 😩

Hi, have u ever been checked for H-pylori its common in loads of.peoe and have the symptoms u describe. Ive just had it couldnt stop burping grumbling stomach it does give u loose stools. Its a stomach infection people can go years without it bothering them.

Reserve your judgement until you get your results back. Most of our regular bowel movements become regular and if we try and change our bodies need to re-learn the habit. You are taking Mintec peppermint for your tummy to stop the grumbling etc. Allow it to settle first and see how you feel.

Missformed stools and loosness can be caused by many things and may go given time, Anxiety can cause this problem, you control your Anxiety and you control all your negative health issues, therefore await your results and see how you go

Thank you for the advice, I know anxiety can have a huge impact on our bodies as I'm finding out, I'm trying to re train my brain and counselling with a neuropsychologist help but know this will take time but I just need to be patient, easier said than done tho as lots of people on here will agree. Thanks for your comments and advice x s

    Hi again,

Well the stool sample came back negative which is good but when I go to the doctors tomorrows to give him an update on anxiety/ ibs symptoms/ possibly peri menopause.. I'm not sure what to say to him or what to get him to check for as he wasn't overly friendly last time I saw him so I'm unsure if to go or hang on a few days to see if settles down.. any help would be great and thanks again x

Great results, A little advice, be careful regards any tests you may have, many can and do have some risks. Be positive and only ask for tests if you have that need. I had checks on my Colon, a cameral pushed up to find problems. It is an experience.

Thank you, I guess this is where it would be good to get a sympathetic and knowledgeable gp so he doesn't go and get me all the tests under the sun just to get me out his room.. he doesn't seem to say much about peri menopause or ibs in depth. I feel like I know more than him lol arrgh!

Forgot to say I think it could all be anxiety related but I just need him to tell me that and not me suggesting that it is anxiety :-(

If you need to find out about any of your GPs in Practice. Look on the NHS CHOICES web pages, all practices are listed in area and there is generally a list of your Doctors and their Specialities.

You can use the GP with knowledge of your Speciality and concentrate on that GP.

    Hello,

I've been battling with anxiety and IBS for many years. I too always have the thought "is this bowl movement caused my anxiety or real ibs", it is really hard to know. I hope you get relief soon. x0x

      Hi

Thanks for your reply, it's good to know I'm not alone as you know anxiety can make you feel alone sometimes but this site really helps.

Sorry to hear you also suffer tho as it's really not nice at all is it.

      Take care xx
