IBS+Periods

Has anyone else got the problem that their IBS symptoms absolutely sky rocket just as their period is going to start? I have cramps and pain that literally make me unable to move sometimes. Pain killers such as Co-codamol and Tramadol don't even do that much and I have to take them for up to 5 days sometimes. Sometimes I lierally can't control my bowels either in the first few days. I'm 22 and have been suffering with IBS since I was fifteen and am very sure that it is directly linked to my hormones, as iv'e also had terrible problems with behaviour and moods over the years. I have another hospital appointment soon and just want someone to listen? xoxo M

Hi Mairi, try taking sandocal (desolveable calcium tablets ) for a full week before your period is due. I think you will find they will help with regard the period pain. They also help with the irritability that can come with the period.

Hi Mairi I will check with my wife when we first went out together she told me that she also suffered with chronic period pay and she used to have to stay in bed and could'nt go to work. i took her to a specalist and he blantently said it was normal for a women! i did my nut and with luck she was put into hospital and to have a complete hysterecomy just as well because her insides where all noted up and in a big mess, it fixed her pain but we could not have her children. This may not be the real answer your looking for. But iam sorry of  what you have gone through.

I'm 27 and my ibs gets noticeably worse for me the 4/5 days leading up to and first couple days of my period. Even if I seriously watch what I eat, drink and get enough sleep. I haven't avoided it yet. I don't make plans untill the afternoon as it's worse in mornings for me and I take ibuprofen for 2 days  when my period actually comes,I find it's good for pp. I can see my mood change too but I dunno if it's ibs or pms 😳.

Mairi, I first found out about sandocal on holiday in Tenerife. My wife had a horrible rash caused by the sun. A lady told her that if she had taken sandocal before the holiday it would stop her reacting to the sun. She started taking the sandocal straight away. They not only cured the rash but she did a normal formed poo the first in years of ibs d. I recently found out that calcium controls the gaps between the cells lining the bowel. If we can't digest fat correctly it binds with the calcium in the bowel not leaving enough to close the gaps hence the leaky gut syndrome. It my help your ibs.

Hiya, yes most definitely! I have been doubtful that I even have IBS as my symptoms are most certainly on a cycle that flares before my period. Also around the 14 day point. I have also started getting PMT which I have never previously suffered from. I am convinced that IBS is hormone related in many cases.
