IBS severe pain and blood

Hi all,

I have had IBS since I was around 5 years old and suffer quite badly with loose stools and have been on Loperamide for the last 10 years or so. Over the last two years my tablet intake has went from 6 per day to 8 (the maximum)

Recently I have been passing blood and I am suffering with severe cramps very regularly and feel like my body is aching and I'm so lethargic.

I had blood taken a few weeks ago and my GP advised me that they found nothing.

My GP has referred me to a specialist and I will be the recipient of a camera up my back passage. Not keen but need must.

I'm just a bit worried about it all and really don't know what they are looking for and what it all means as my GP like many is very guarded with his thoughts.

If anyone has some information or ideas good or bad I'd appreciate a reply.

Thanks all

Hi, they may want to check for IBD, Inflammatory bowel disease such as crohn's or colitis. The colonoscopy will be able to see if there are any problems such as ulcers. Try not to worry. Ask for pain relief for the colonoscopy. Take care. sheila.

Having a colonoscopy should find answers for you. Don't worry about having the procedure. It is quite simple and easy and nothing to worry about. Just take the sedative and lie back and relax. Good luck!

Did they test yu for CDIFF? If so and it wa negative then you may have been like me. I have had IBS as well or what they thought was IBS. In reality mine was symptoms of IBS caused by inflammation of the colon from IBD. Yes, Infammatory Bowel Disease. It started out in me as IBS at a young age, but over te years as a young man I had multiple scope tests, because there was blood present. It took many years in order to show that I have UC. Ulcerative Coloitis, but now it is progressing more and it looks to be Crohn's Disease in me. Have you lost any weight from it? Did they check your blood count to make sure you don't have enemia.? I am having trouble with absorbing nutrients and have lost 25 pounds. I am low on Vitamin D, B12, protein and Potassium. So they should check your blood as well. I hope that you don't have it, could be blood from irritated roids, but why are your symptoms getting worse? Good luck with the scope test. Let me know what they determine as the cause.

Thanks guys. I did have bloods taken but wasn't told what it was being checked for.

I've been given very little information from my GP so I will quiz the specialist when I get my appointment through.

No weight loss but I'm struggling to drag myself out of bed in the morning and the pain is awful and causing time off work etc.

Hopefully a cause is found and I can get treatment.

I appreciate your input guys, thanks.

Im 24 years old and I have suffered with this pain in the morning for several years now. When it first started they did blood tests to check if i was allergic to any other foods. I have been diagnosed Celiac. Over the years i have become more sensitive to fatty foods and when i eat say gluten free pizza at pizza hut. My sleep pattern is ruined and my stomach pain is at its very worst. I also suffer with very bad anxiety and that makes my stomach pain worse. I too have had 3 operations for endometriosis and large cysts of 11 cms wide. These operations happened in a 1 1/2 year period whilst i was away as a missionary from home. I remember waking up one night with pain feeling like i was going to die. It was that bad. The ambulance service refused to send an ambulance to me!! Anyway this pain that you are all feeling can be debilitating. I have to take time of work with my IBS, anxiety and endometriosis pain. But we cant run faster than we have strength.

We can take all the probiotics we want but the best thing to do is change your lifestyle... Are you eating too much fatty foods i.e chocolate, cheese, processed foods.

I never eat pizza and when i did that one time it messed me up and ive been off of work for 2 days now.

I went to live in America for 6 months and the food there made me so ill. I couldnt attend my classes because i had to be permanently sat by a toilet.

The way we can get rid of the pain is by exercising, eating very healthy (no fats and processed sugars) and drinking water, herbal teas like peppermint and camomile. Swimming is the best even if you just do half an hour of breat stroke.

It will mean a whole lifestyle change and may seem daunting. At first you will get withdrawl symptoms. But you can do it!! smile

This is the best medicine I promise you. You may not get better straight away but you will notice improvements to your health. Try it for a month and let me know how you got on.

      Yeah I get bleeding too...

They told me it was very bad piles because of how many times i have to go to the toilet.

It could be endometriosis though who knows?

It's very hard having IBS because it makes you say hard. You are never getting any nutrients from your food.

I hope you feel better soon,

Hey was wondering what your results looked like?? ,I too am suffering everyday. I just got diagnosed with ibs - d. I am still in denial and very confused. My pain is Definetly everyday, every couple of hours in the lower abdomen and even below the naval. It's this dull and sometimes sharp shooting pains. I had a colonoscopy, but what I find to be weird is that my doctor told me I had slight thickening of a bowel wall, and irritation on my sigmoid colon. But I don't have crohns or uc or polyps, and said the top of my small intestine looked clear. He took a biopsy of an area that he thought to be microscopic colitis but came out negative. Have had every bacteria test except this h pylori one. I find it weird because he kind of shrugged that off when I asked for it. I'm so confused could this just really be ibs, or something more? Got put on viberzi we'll see if it helps.
