IBS stopping me from normal life

I have had IBS all my life and recently it has been waking me up at night, causing me great pain that isn’t relieved by a BM, and also increased shivering. Does anyone else get old and goose bump-y when having a bad IBS day? I also think part of it is a psychological thing as I get scared of being sick, even though I know I won’t be. Does anyone else get any of this?

Hi, it’s horrible IBS I get good days and bad days had it for many years now.

At the moment I’m suffering from a lot of bloating & gurgling lower abdomen.

Sometimes I wonder if this is IBS or something else it’s worrying.

I’m 18 and have had IBS my whole life. It’s so unpredictable; I never know when I’m going to have an attack or feel extremely nauseous.

    Hello Isobel,

Yeah I've had this pretty much all my younger years, how old are you may I ask?

I always out the goose pimples and shivering down to an adrenaline rush brought on by a panic attack about possibly being sick.

What's your diet like and do you eat before bed?

I’m 18. I constantly feel sick and know it’s my phobia but it also can’t be helped by my IBS. I’ve tried buscopan but that made me ill for about 4 days - I couldn’t move my stomach hurt so much!

Having always suffered from chronic sinusitis I didn't figure it out at first.  I could get up feeling perfectly well then my sinus would kick in sometimes after a BM.  I did all the normal things that I did for a sinus attack to no avail.  Then I began to realise that this was the start of an attack I couldn't get warm I just had to sleep when the pain would let me.  At first this would last for a morning then  as the attacks got worse they would last for a day or two I would ache all over, just have to go with the flow as I had no energy just as if I had flu.  I have also had attacks when I have simply felt as if I was burning up ( this has happened when I have been out.) I used to feel nauseous.  It's really is horrible.

IBS used to wake me up at night but now it doesn’t and my symptoms are in remission. I used to get nausea wirh it tooMy IBS always comes on with stress so I know if I avoid things that make me anxious,  I will be symptom free.  I find Buscopan and Nurofen help me but Mebeverine made me ill.  Have you tried the Fodmap diet or a food diary?

I’ve come off wheat, dairy and everything imaginable to try fix it but nothing has seemed to help! Currently my stomach is really painful, making me feel nauseous and I don’t know how to fix it.

Ask your doctor for a different antispasmodic.  There are lots on the market and you may have to try several to find the right one for you.  Once I got the right antispasmodic, this helped me.  Food has never triggered my IBS.  You could try distraction techniques like a hobby or light exercise such as walking to take your mind off the pain.  Sipping milk is also good for settling nausea.  You could also ask your doctor about gut targeted hypnosis which can help with the pain and anxiety associated with symptoms

Your symptoms sound like IBS.  If all your tests are negative, your doctor will diagnose IBS.  Has your doctor mentioned it to you?

I ask the doc if it’s ibs and he just says it might be cause I’m not getting diarrhoea all the time and more consirpation he not sure if it is ibs I’m so confused now

People with IBS either will get diarrhoea or constipation or a mixture of both.  Maybe see a different doctor to get a firm answer. Sounds as if your doctor doesn't know.
