IBS sufferers - do you have pain in one site

Was just wondering, if anyone has pain in only 1 site on their body, e.g. I have RUQ pain that comes in waves and can be debilitatingly painful, is it a typical characteristic in IBS sufferers, or is the pain more sporadic in its location ?

Sorry what is ruq? Mine was always in one place just under the right rib but the pain radiated under both ribs and through to my back...i still get little twinges on the same area inder the ribs

RUQ= Right upper quadrant. Imagine your abdomen divided into four sections, it's where the liver is situated, mine comes in waves of pain. Have had a fair few diagnostics and everything is okay apart from disturbed liver enzymes.

And some doctors suggest that it could be severe IBS pain.. Which I don't think is plausible since it's not post-prandial or related to BM's at all :S

Mine is in that area dic thought gall stones and liver function test came back border line and c protein levels elevated was put on mebeverine and once one course was completed had no probs and all bloods redone cane back normal..i now have mebeverine in stock as a jic but i havent used them for nearlly two months and havent changed my diet so doc thinks mine was due to stress

Interesting, they still said its a possibility of biliary issues, but 2 ultrasounds come back normal as did sigmoidoscopy.

My inflammatory markers (C reactive protein and ESR) are normal

It's just my liver ALT that keeps going up and down

I tried mebeverine at my own request for two weeks and it did nothing at all for me which is a shame.

I've had the pain in varying degrees for two years now, only started measuring enzymes in May last year.

Took a turn for the worse in recent times, but it seems to be responding to Pregabalin, however the doctor days this doesn't really narrow down the cause much.

I get pain on both sides under (at the lower end of) my rib cage. My (self-diagnosed) is episodic and more than likely reflects a consumption-related issue. It's not debilitating enough, though, to cause me to seek treatment -- but I do try to go easy on the strong spices!

Not my scene. I did excerise religiously for about 3 months and got pretty fit, but the pain took a turn for the worse (don't think it was related to the workouts) so I had to stop.

It's still up in the air what the diagnosis could be, I'm due to see a liver specialist, however I was referred in October and the GP expedited it to say I need to be seen sooner, yet I probably won't be seen til at least march because of all the alcoholics In my city... I've not drank a drop or taken any drugs that are known to elevate liver enzymes since may last year. Takes the biscuit.

The liver itself doesn't have pain receptors, unless it's capsule is stretched when the liver is enlarged (which it isn't) so its probably not that. Now I have to rule out gallbladder completely and pancreas, which will probably mean more invasive procedures. I just don't want them to have it out just for the sake of it because I don't 'need' one.

(Sorry. That was supposed to be (self diagnosed) IBS.)

Surely uve had an ultrasound as that will rule out gall bladder and pancreas and liver probs.mine did

Hello Just wondering .My dr told me even though my ultersound is normal on my luver and gallbladder i need a nuclear hydia scan to rule out gallbladder function. Sowas you told if an ultersound is normal ots not the gallbladder.just ciriouse.Iknow removing the gallbladder is a vig money maker. Thanks for your time.

I've had an ultrasound, it rules out the majority of gallbladder problems,

But it doesn't give an idea of what the call the ejection frAction, so it may appear to be healthy, yet not function correctly.

The liver, ultrasound will pick up enlarged liver, some fatty livers, and scarring, but the only way to tell what they call the gold standard, is liver biopsy - huge needle straight through your side.

It's just speculation what they do next, but at least when the doctor turns round and says, "ooo perhaps it's cause u had a couple of drinks, or took a paracetamol, or ate X" I can turn round and say unmm no.

Cheers. Hopefully more people on here can describe the nature of their pain. It just doesn't feel knotty and crampy like I personally think bowel pain would feel like

Thr pain think is hard to explain i couldnt lie down sit up walk stand was on all fours rocking ay one point it was like acid burning yet cold a tightening ..thought i was having a heart attack pain went on for four hours on both attacks i had.

The two bad attacks I have had are similar but the pain went in like a wave starting at zero and pain off the scale to the point of bringing tears to my eyes, I was sure it was an acute gallbladder attack or perhaps appendicitis, called 111 and by the time they called me back 2 hours later it had started to subside.

My pain is always in the same place, on the right hand side by my hip bone. When I get an attack I normally have to sit on my knees and rock. There is no release, it just gradually eases off after a couple of hours. Afterwards I'm exhausted.
