Ibuprofin and steroid injections

I was recently prescribed ibuprofen even though the Dr told me when I first developed PMR not to take it, I said to her I thought we couldn't take, didn't really catch her reply( a bit deaf these days) anyway I asked the pharmacist , she said she wouldn't but speak to the Dr.  The Dr said also if I wanted I could have a steroid injection, im wondering if it is any good if you have PMR, its for my neck which has been really painfull for ab 3mths now. I am down to 2 - 2 - 1/2 and apart from the neck and a bit stiff in my hip when I sit for a long period I am doing ok. Your views on the injections please! Thanks Liz

If it were me I'd be more inclined to try to get some expert physiotherapy for the neck.  And you're right, ibuprofen isn't a good idea.  Sounds like your doctor has had a bit of a brain cramp!  But others may have had good luck with steroid injection so hopefully they'll be along to offer advice.  Good luck!

    Hi liz12234

I have recently had a cortisone injection into my shoulder for bursitis and osteoarthritis. I had dreadful pain i couldn't move my arm and i had about 2 hours sleep per night due the pain keeping me awake....i would recommend it, my pain was completely gone within three days. I was told by my ortho that it would not enter my system but stay in the location it was injected and that it would last several weeks......my best wishes to you liz12234.....in whatever you decide..

liz12234, I believe if you have PMR pain the ibuprofen will not help with that pain. Good luck!

The proper dose of oral pred is far more use than an injection in PMR unless the injection is being used for local treatment of bursitis - common in shoulders and hips alongside PMR but not usually the cause of neck pain

Do you have any back problems? Tight muscles in the back can often lead to neck pain and stiffness. And as Anhaga says - physiotherapy would probably help there.
