Idiopathic Acute Recurrent Pancreatitis

Hello,

4 months back I had abdominal pain in the upper part , i took some medicine for pain and indigestion , but the pain continued , next day doctor gave me a pain killer injection but the pain didn't cured, soon i was sent for an ultrasound which showed that i had accute pancreatitis , I was admitted to the hospital with Serum amylase level 1257 and serum lipase level 350 . After 2 days in hospital my pain was gone . I never touched alcohol and hate smoking . 3 rd day i was discharged from hospital and sent to home with a low fat diet (without oils) , 1 and half months went on good i was slowly comming on my normal diet and started taking small amount of oils in my food, it was a festival day and there was a sweet dish which was made full of oil and ghee, i forgot that it was too heavy for me and had them in 4-5 number , i felt indigestion and other day in mornig felt the pain again ( this time it was mild ) i went to doctor he gave me some medications and the pain was gone in 1-2 day . After that i visited another good doctor for pancreatitis , he suggested me for mrcp and several blood tests , as per mrcp i didnt had pancreatitis, all blood test reports were normal just my vitamin D was low , doctor gave me a vitamin d capsule along with medications ( antoxid , ultracet fot pain , razo ) , i had 2 more attacks of pancreatitis after that but they were very mild 1-2 hr they were normal , doctor suggested me for EUS which was diagnosed normal , gall bladder is normal , hyperchoic pancreatic parenchyma was seen at the tail and head regin of my pancreas by EUS , doctor said i had just a viral infection in my pancreas and i will recover in some time , its been 1.5 months for me again normal diet now ( low fat) . Please if some expert or somoene who knows about this can tell me that would ill recover from this disease ever? The hospital report said i had episodes of recurrent acute pancreatitis . Will I'll be ever able to have some normal food with my friends occasionally .. A fast response would be appreciated.

MY CURRENT AGE IS 17 YEARS

Omg. That sound awful. I’m so sorry that you are going thru that. Pancreatitis is very difficult. I had pain in my left upper abdomen for 20 years. They dr told me 20 years ago it was Irritable Bowl Syndrome (IBS) and treated me for that for almost 18 years.  No I live in a different city. I saw another doctor he told me it was Pancreatitis by the EUS. I do drink alcohol so he told me to stop or only have one occasionally.  When I do drink the pain come so bad but I deal with it. I do not take pain medicine.  But the other day I got so sick. My stomach was so big and bloated and it hurt so bad for 2 weeks I finally went to the ER. They did a CT Scan of the abdomen and the scan showed my pancreas was normal. My Amylase was normal and my Lipase was 284 the normal is 240.  The dr said the Lipase was not that high to have so much pain. So I get very confused.  We MUST do a lot of our research and test our own bodies with the diet we have. I know I should not drink alcohol. So if I stop alcohol I can test my own body and see if it’s alcohol or greasy/oily food that are doing the attacks.  I hope that these attacks are only temporary for you. Please take care.

You're very young to have to deal with this for whatever reason.  If a virus is the cause and you've been told you'll recover in time you must be patient.  One and half months is not a long time in the pancreas time zone, the pancreas is known to be very, very slow to recover.  If you feel good, without symptoms, try a little of the food you desire when you dine out, not a whole meal.  If you don't have a reaction, try a little more next time but stay on a low fat diet the rest of the time.  Make sure you drink water.  Ask your doctor about getting some digestive enzymes which you take before you eat to help digest your food (I also have to take them during and after I eat).  It doesn't mean you can go crazy eating what you like but they can help.

Having a history of Acute Pancreatitis on your hospital record means you have to be careful all the time, be patient, take things slowly you've a long time to go in your life and you don't want to have to deal with this disease which can be difficult to manage.  If it progresses attacks can be life threatening, it's not like having a headache that can be cleared up with a couple of pills and a lie down, it can be very serious ongoing.

Vitamin D deficiency is common with pancreatitis.  Because we can't digest our food properly we can be deprived of many vitamins and other good stuff and we need to replace them so make sure you see your doctor for check-ups and tests ongoing to keep on top of your particular situation.  A doctor who specialises in the pancreas is best. Good luck.

      Thanks for response,

Its not 1.5 months its 4.5 months its 1.5 months i last visited the doctor and yes i am increasing my diet slowly as before when i increased i had a pain by Gods grace now i dnt feel pain. And if doctor say me i am well ill then also keep away from fats for atleast 6 months more . I just read somewhere that pancreatitis can never be cured . I will live on liw fat for whole life but cannot live with that fact that i am suffering from a disease .

Doctors say i dnt have any symptoms of chronic pancreatitis as my pancreas is ok just has a hyperchoic parenchyma.
