2005 1st episode

2007 2nd episode

2009 3rd episode

7/4/18 4th episode

1st and 2nd episodes were alcohol related. gallbladder removed after #2

not 1 drop of alcohol EVER since #2

#3 cause given-sludge

#4 cause given-sludge

there's my timeline

Dr says diet is not proven to be an increased risk factor

Dr says some people are just predisposed to having sludge

So of course I have questions:

1. How do I know what preventative measures I can take to avoid a 5th episode?

2. Have treatment options progressed since my last episode in 2009? 2 days ago I had an ERCP procedure and was released from hospital today with enzyme numbers back in normal range whereas in 2009 an ERCP was not offered. I spent 10 days in hospital on NPO waiting for enzymes to drop.

Thank you.

Are you seeing a pancreas specialist? I was born with two pancreatic ducts that never fused together … very rare condition called Pancreas Divisum. Due to that condition it caused chronic pancreatitis. I was having attacks and my blood never showed it so the doctors didn’t catch it until last year. Since I have two narrow ducts they build up with sludge. In order to prevent it I have had multiple ERCPs. However you also need to change your lifestyle. You should be eating six small meals rather than three big ones, watch your sugar intake, stay very hydrated. Also raw veggies might be too hard to digest so I’ve been recommended frozen. Whenever you have abdominal pain then rest your pancreas by not eating for a couple days. Stick to clear broth then introduce Ensure. Once you start to feel better then introduce your low fat meals. I eat an orange as it helps me with inflammation but I cannot drink orange juice because it upsets my stomach. I also have to take acid reflux medication. Unfortunately there’s no cure, but speaking with a pancreas specialist and figuring out a treatment plan for you could be a start. Not all GI specialist understand the pancreas definitely not primary doctors. We’re all unique in our symptoms but with proper tests and treatments you can prevent future attacks. Good luck.
