If I am allergic to bone cement?

I had tkr 15 months ago. My knee is hot and doesn't work properly, can't climb stairs, still limp, have difficulty sleeping. Am trying to arrange allergy tests. If bone cement is the problem can I have a revision without the cement?

Sorry for your experience. How was it determined it was bone cement allergy? I attached a photo of my allergic reaction. I read a post where someone had a revision without bone cement, but check with your doctor.
I had an allergic reaction to either dermabond, aquaseal, sutures or bone cement. Ended up in a wheelchair for almost 10 months due to pain, swelling and scar tissue/ orthofibrosis. After additional treatment (Gua Sha tool, massage therapy) to reduce scar tissue, a JAS brace, PT, Epsom salt soaks and leg warmers, at 11 months I was able to walk with crutches. It's almost a year since LTKR and I have started walking in a pool to rebuild muscle and stamina and now down to one crutch. The right knee needs to be replaced and I am going to insist on allergy testing to anything used in the surgery to avoid the pain and problems of LTKR.
Good Luck!

I am waiting for allergy tests. Hints to a possible allergy is my knee heating up especially when trying to sleep. It feels like a hot water bottle which is not good during summer. I REALLY don't want to end up in a wheelchair.

Thanks for your reply... my knee didn't feel really hot but as the days post op continued, my range of motion became more restricted which I now understand was due to rapid swelling and scare tissue in response to an allergic reaction.
I climbed in and out of the pool via a three step ladder this week for the first time! Walking in the pool an hour twice a week is helping to build muscle which has reduced occasional knee pain most likely due to a little scar tissue. (According to my surgeon) Pain has been continuing to decrease so I feel increasing muscle is holding the joint more securely.
Looks like I am one of the people taking 18 months to recover, but it can be done.
Hope you find relief and answers.

I was tested 3 weeks before my TKR because I thought I would be allergic to the bone cement....and sure enough I was!!! Yes, they do TKR without the bone cement. The use a different type of implant where your own bones grow into the implant to stabilize it. I am 18 months post TKR and doing fine.
"A cementless joint prosthesis, sometimes called a press-fit prosthesis, is specially textured to allow the bone to grow onto it and adhere to it over time."
