If it's not endo, what could it be?

Hi, I had a laparoscopy 2 days ago and my doctor said that no endometriosis was found. I really don't know what to do now as I was pretty sure that's what was causing me so much pain and when I saw my consultant as an outpatient he seemed to think that's what it was as well. I have been having heavy bleeding and irregular periods which is not ideal but I suppose is bearable but what I cannot cope with is the pain. I have really bad pelvic pain and pain which goes to my back and left hip and radiates down my leg. This feels like nerve pain and is sometimes so bad I struggle to stand on that leg. My GP prescribed mefenamic acid and this seemed to help a little with the pelvic pain but not the leg pain. What else could this be if it's not endo? Also, how long should I expect to be off work after my laparoscopy? I'm in quite a lot of pain at the moment and still bleeding and the doc told me to take 2 weeks off work but my boss said 'oh that's quite straightforward you'll be back within a week'. I'm really worried now because I don't think I'll be ready to go back as I also have a lot of acid reflux and suspected stomach ulcer which is also giving me a lot of pain since having the lap. Please help!

Try going to a Neuro muscular therapist - there is a whole lot of muscles that could be causing the hip/back/ leg pain. Obviously once you have recovered from your lap. But it could be the reason - worth a shot to be rid of the pain anyway!

I've had a normal ultrasound but not an internal one and they said there was no need as the normal one was clear. I have an appointment to go back in see my consultant in early Feb but I have had the leg pain with the bleeding I had post laparoscopy. My Gp has given me another week off work which I'm grateful for as I'm still having some pain and cramps. I was under the impression that nothing was found during the lap but the discharge letter from the hospital that I took to my surgery says that there was no endo found but that multiple adhesions were found.

For my reflux I was given omeprazole for 4 weeks which didn't really do anything for my stomach pain and my gp has now given me a higher dose of this along with anti-sickness tablets and I am waiting for an ultrasound on my upper abdomen.

    Rebecca,

How are you doing now? I think you may want to check with your human resource department about going on FMLA so you don't have to worry about losing your job. That's the only advice I have to offer, I have endo but I'm controlling it well with a rare birth control pill. I wish you the best and don't give up!

I'm a lot better now thank you but still been having some pain which my GP said was normal. I've now started my period though and the leg pain is back. I have been looking on the net and apparently there is something called sciatic endo which can be missed during a laparoscopy. I don't have a follow up appointment with my consultant now until Feb so unfortunately I've going to have to wait until then to see what else he suggests. On my other problem, I'm still having stomach pain and occasionally feel sick although my tablets do seem to be starting to work. I should have said that my stomach pain, which my doc said is swollen, and my reflux only started just after I had a bad case of chicken pox for which I ended up in hospital. Honestly, the past few months I feel like I have been constantly in my surgery or hospital.

I hope this message finds you well and in better health. I have a friend who is currently suffering from the same nerve pain. She had it before and still after her endo lap. Did you ever find a solution? We have been looking for answers for months and she can no longer afford to pay for additional doctor visits. Her health insurance does not want cover anymore surgeries or doctor visits.

    Rebecca,

I am so sorry to hear about how much you are going through. Do you have a chiropractor available in your area? I think they may be able to help with the sciatic pain, which has to do with the spinal nerve roots, I'm sure. I know many people don't like chiropractic care but they helped me when nobody else could!! I will keep you in my prayers and please keep us posted. Just hang in there!!

    Hi Rebecca

It appears I'm in a similar situation to you. I went in for my laposcopy in October 2013 and was told they found nothing. I was so convinced it would be endo as my cousin suffers with this very badly and my symptoms were almost identical. I have now been discharged from the hospital and back to the GP. It feels like a never ending battle. I have been told sometimes you just get pains for no reason?!? Hmmm disagree with that!! They are now trying me on the injection which I haven't found helpful as I

Still suffering with the same symptoms. I have been referred to a urologist to see if they can see anything in my bladder.

Make sure you keep a diary of everything. Any slight changes and be very specific with you symptoms. Keep pushing as only you know your body!! Try and find a pelvic pain specialist or speak to family planning as they have been helpful in giving advice as to where to go and what to do next!! Good luck and keep is updated. Hopefully we can get an answer and some form of relief. 😊 x
