I didnt hit puberty till about 15-17. At 16 i grew a little bit, it was noticeable. Im about 5'5 and i dreadfully dont want to stay this height. I would be happy with 5'8. What can i do to grow taller, i know im running out of time. I have always had a small frame and looked very young, at 16 i was highly insecure about myself to the point where i didnt even attempt to get a job. (Highly regret this). But at 16 i literally looked like i was 9 or 12 years old. My problem is i still look that way. I've never been able to up my weight due to the fact that i disliked what my parents would make for food.. so im pretty skinny and have always been, thats why i think i have been short all my life, i have never ate as much as i should have or would/could have. If i ate more and gained about 30 40 lbs, is it possible i could see something like 3 or 4 inches from 19 to 21? The growth plates at my wrist are still slightly open. My parents are both under 5'5 but my brother is about 5'8 or 5'10 around that height. I just want to be average. Ive had alot of girls tell me if i was taller they would sweat me so thats mainly why i need to grow 4-5 inches. Any tips? Any answers are welcome thanks

Whatever you may see on the internet, you can't just grow taller to order - or to thwart your genes I'm afraid. You can make an estimate of the height you will be - to plus or minus a couple of inches and that is as accurate as you really can be at this stage and that is still a wide range of "possible".

Children grow at different rates, especially boys are later - it may just be that you haven't got to the end of your "growth spurt" yet and you will grow some more. If your growth plates are still open you will carry on growing yet, even if slowly. You are in the middle of the range for 16 year olds:

"Average weights for 16-year-old boys range from 103 lbs to 195 lbs and heights range from 5 feet, 3 inches to 6 feet, 2 inches."

Improving your diet will very probably help - but don't believe claims you read for supplements or diets. If you ate more and "gained 30 to 40 lbs" that wouldn't make you taller necessarily, it would probably make you fat which isn't a good idea at all. Posture makes a big difference to how you look and so will muscle as you mature further. If you are really worried go and ask your doctor for advice but be patient.

Girls who tell you they'd go out with you if you were taller are really still rather immature - it isn't the outside that matters and they have yet to learn that. There are top sportsmen who are smaller than you in their 20s - with no problem with girls!

And a question I found on the internet said that someone had been 5ft 5in at 18 - but at 22 was now 6ft 3in. So you could still get there!

yeah thanks Eileen for the comment very appreciated. It just bothers me at times bcus i think about how ppl would get looked at differently if they were bigger or smaller and this point of view does have some solid facts or truth as far as being taller. For example my brother isnt what you would say good looking but considering the fact that he is about average for height (he's 5'10 and fat) he found a girl just because he has that height, when you think about it no girl would have even thinked about dating him if he was 5'5 or below. I certainly understand your point of view on what matters is inside but i personally think i was destined to be at least like 5'8 or 5'9 which would definitely make a difference in my life and i hope i could get there in the near future. Thanks alot for the reply tho i am in the process of improving my diet.

You'll probably keep growing for at least another 4 or 5 years - and then you have another 50 or 60 years to go so it will be soon you find out how tall you'll be! If you are destined to be that tall, you will get there.

Actually - I and both my daughters are well under 5ft 5in and we don't like men who are 5'10"! It gives us a sore neck.

Well you need to introduce me to your daughters then. Haha no just kidding. I dont struggle with getting girls at all i just would want to be taller in order for me to meet a wide array of women in that 5'6 - 5'8 area. But what do you mean by 50 or 60 years to go? I dont think i will be dead in 60 years lol my family has pretty good genes as far as going strong in the 100s... I wish you the best though it's a pleasure meeting you i will use your level of optimism and apply it to my life for sure wink

What I meant was we have a long time on this earth and you aren't even 20% of the way through yet - plenty of time to go. At 20 it will be fair to assume you have another 50 or 60 years at least - that will take you to 80. The rest is overtime! lol

Nah - they're too old for you, my granddaughter is your age. She isn't interested in whether a guy is tall though. But one daughter (a paramedic) is 4'11" in her work boots. The other (who used to be a nurse) is 5'2".

Always look on the bright side - you have a choice, being miserable or cheerful. It takes a lot more muscles to frown than it does to smile.

      Good luck!

As someone who is 5 ft I hate to tell you that you can't will yourself to grow or I would have done it ages ago. When I started working at 17 I looked significantly younger so I understand where you are coming from but you get used to it and I started looking more my age in my early to mid twenties- it will happen no matter how tall you are.
