can I ask why you got tested if you don't have symptoms?

i didnt want to fet tested for hsv but it was part of a panel of stds so i dodnt really have a choice in the matter but one doctor told me it could be a false positive whereas another said no i definitely have it... sometimes i just wish i never went to the doctor as im a bit of a paranoid person so thos was the worst case for me

They don't normally test for herpes in regular std testing unless you have symptoms or really push for it, so it's strange they did it.

If you have never had any symptoms of herpes I wouldn't take the medication. I would get another test done.

yeah, ive seen that most panels dont even do herpes testing unless you specifically ask for it... but i didnt, they just told me that i tested positive and ONE nurse that took the test said it was more likely a false positive and she personally didnt like doing that STD test panel because the false positive rate for herpes is so high but when i called again another doctor basically told me the complete opposite -- that even though ive bever had symptoms and the other nurse said otherwise, i definitely have it-- even though when i took a look ay my test results my supplemental testing came back negative. theres a lot of confusion and this has been nervewracking so i dont know whether i should disclose or what but its been so stressful

that sounds very confusing and frustrating. I really think getting another test done is your best option, and/or having a discussion with your doctor regarding the results and asking them to explain to you why they believe you are positive or negative. You're entitled to understand your diagnosis. If you have a planned parenthood in your area they generally have a better understanding of those kind of test results.

Another thing I have seen is people posting their test results here, the actual paper it is printed out on, and sometimes someone on here can explain the results better. Just edit it to cover up any personal information.

      thank you for your replies

unfortunately in the case of my test results they are only online so i can only see the IGG results and if the supplemental test came positive or negative...

just gonna bump this with a photo- do you think this looks like an early forming lesion?

its just itchy- i think its a bug bite weirdly enough because it doesnt look like anything ive seen with herpes but at the same time i cant find any pictures of a lesion beginning to form. thank you for your reply!

No problem! I agree with you, it doesn't really look like anything similar to herpes, just looks slightly irritated. It just really messes with people to know that herpes can look like anything (rash, spots, sores, etc.) has it changed at all?

no- its been consistent in its appearance so im inclined to believe it may just be a bite or something, nothing some cortisone cant fix... its definitely stressful on top of the possibility of me having a false positive that you have a heightened concern for everything, and since herpes looks so different to people its just one of those things you can never know...
