Ill after colonoscopy?

I had my first colonoscopy yesterday and felt fine. They couldn't complete it because by bowel is too loopy apparently!

I had sedation (which did nothing) and was home pretty quick. I wasn't hungry but had a sandwich that evening as I'd been 48hrs without food so thought I better get something in me. Felt very full after but ok. Bit crampy but nothing major.

This morning again I was not hungry but had porridge. As soon as a started eating I felt very nauseous and had stomach cramps in both stomach and intestines. I finished eating thinking it might be hunger - nausea but felt worse after and continued to feel really sick all morning.

by lunchtime I felt ok ( but again not hungry) so I had toast and soup. As soon as I had half a slice of toast I felt really nauseous again but ate most of the lunch. Ever since I've had stomach pain and now I've had diarrhoea too. Mt stomach is really sore and crampy (the intestine pain has gone now I've been to the toilet), I still feel nauseous and I feel kind of rough in general. I didn't feel this bad taking the prep!

Has anyone else felt ill after their colonoscopy? Any tips or advice?

yes in my experience it akes several days to recover especially if they take little biopsies.  Just take it easy for a few days

Thanks. No one said I might feel ill after- I was fine after both my upper endoscopes so thought this would be the same. Guess the picolax sends your system through the wringer.

I ended up staying in hospital after my last colonoscopy for a few nights. It was the worst pain I've ever had and I didn't eat for days. I have to go for another one soon too. I would advise that you rest for a few days. Hope you feel better soon.

Ok so I'm still ill. Doesn't matter what I eat, within one to two hours I'm in the loo. Even crackers are going straight through me.

The hospital said I can take immodium -took some last night, had some toast, felt fine. Haven't eaten today but boom, diarrhoea again.

I'm not sure if I can go to work tomorrow like this.

    What can I do?

Hi leeniepie. sorry your still feeling so crap. i've had several colonoscopies, & when your symptoms are still well & truly alive anyway, having the prep for the colonoscopy, particularly moviprep in my case, has always affected me afterwards for 3 to 5 days. with the prep last time i had some 60+ bm's of just watery diarrea between the prep taken night before & on the morning of procedure. with my bowels already going through without all this on top, i felt crap for days - pain, exacerbation of symptoms & sooooo tired. you must make sure you keep your fluids up & rest. maybe don't go to work tomorrow if you still feel like this. i think if it goes on longer than 6days you should contact your gastro team - do you have an ibd nurse? like you said earlier & i feel the same- the prep & procedure does put your bowels through the wringer; especially as your bowels are already "ill".  hope you begin to feel better soon.  x
