Im 14 Years Old & Have Bad Back Pain When Waking Up

Posted , 8 users are following.

Im 14 years old going to be 15 next month. I have been having bad back pain after waking up for the past year. It hurts super bad in the lower back. I told my Mom to take me to the doctor but she thinks it isnt that bad and its from me sitting around. I have been being active recently and working out to help relive stiffness in my back but I still feel the same way. It hurts really bad..

You have to check where the pain is coming from exactly, I had a similar problem last year and the pain was concentrated on the lower back. I realized when I drank a lot of water the pain went away eventually and that lead to the comunclusion that it was a kidney problem. And I think you should convince your mom to go see a doctor, since the back is a very important and critical part of our body and problems in the back may not be fixed once damaged.

Hi Dylan, I am sorry to hear that you have been having back pain every morning for the past year and that your Mum isn't taking you seriously. Mums seem to fall into two categories either dismissive or over protective. I know I am over protective. Does your pain wear off when you are up and around? There are lots of possibilities but I really think you would benefit from a trip to the doctor and possibly an x-ray at the very least. Do you think you could make an appointment with the doctor yourself. Mum would need to know eventually of course but it might help her realise that you really do need to see someone.

Yeah the pain starts to go away once I'm up and around after a bit.

Hi Dylan, I think you need to persuade your mum or another relative you are close to and go see the GP again, or see a different GP. Posture is certainly a contributor, and anything you can do fitness wise and to stay a healthy weight can only be a good thing. Some sports are better than others for bad backs, if it is indeed where the pain is coming from, swimming is generally good as it supports the body, front crawl and back stroke being the best strokes to swim. I agree it's always worth getting a proper check out, sadly a small % of people are unlucky and get things wrong with them that can only be detected following X-Ray and MRI scans, depending on what's being checked out. If it's as bad as you say, and you try to sit straight up and not slouch to keep a good posture, and don't have a school bag too heavy on your back ! - and try and distribute the wieght evenly.....my daughter was 15 when after 6 months of physio not working on her ankle we persisted and got scans and found she had the largest Os Trigonum in her left ankle the orthopaedic surgeon has ever seen, no amount of physio would have cured it !! some things only become apparent at adolesence, she has not had it removed and having physio to stregthen up her ankle again, but I merely use her as an example. I was 19 in my first year of Uni when I siffered trrrible sciatica ( ignored largely by GPs ) - I am now 41 and have 3 slipped discs and many trapped nerves down by legs, hips and live in chronic pain. You know your own body, if you really feel that it should be checked, do it, everyhting is so much easier to treat when caught early on. Don't worry about wasting anyone's time etc, you are not, most drs would rather see someone early than too late - good luck !

    Hi dylan2k

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. Does the back pain only occurs upon waking up? Which part of your back is pain loacted specifically. You see there can be many reasons for the pain. The primary thing to do is have it check by a professional. The reason why I ask if you only feel the pain when waking up is because it may be caused by your mattress. Try sleeping on a different bed. If the pain did'nt disappear then you really need to have it checked. You're very young to be experiencing such pains.

Yes to this Angel and Dylan;  this was to be my suggestion, too.....none of us realize how much "a good mattress/bed" is important for backs.....and then if no improvement, have it checked..............Bron

    Hi Dylan,

Sounds to me that after a year of lower back pain you need to see a doctor, you may now beable to book the appointment yourself, just tell Mum you can no longer put up with the pain and you want to get it sorted out, it may be something small so dont worry too much, it might even be the bed you are sleeping on if it is too hard or the mattress is bumpy, sounds to me your bed could be the quite likely suspect, however, dont hesitate to go ahead and book the appointment yourself and after tell Mum you really need to get sorted out, good luck and dont worry its possibly something quite simple.
