Im 4 days post op and trying to find comfortable sleep positions with my partner.

I have many concerns about dislocation as I have an un-cemented replacement. I understand it takes longer to heal, but lasts longer. I am also wondering when and in what positions sex is safe after total hip replacement. I waited 4 years for this surgery and am terrified I might do something to damage it before it heals...

Hello Chelsea. Think you will find the golden rule is six weeks. The Royal College of Surgeons England have an excellent leaflet for download. Search it out

Last night for the first time I slept for eight hours at eight weeks post op

    Sleep is the biggest issue

    Good luck with your recovery

    Hi

my consultant said it was ok to have sex when I went for my six week check up.however he said let the man do the "jigging about bit". He said missionary position ok if you are comfortable with weight.no swinging from chandeliers !  As long as you don't twist or break the 90degree rule you will be ok.

secondly about sleeping, my consultant wasn't too happy about me sleeping in any other position than on my back as he said it was the best for healing. However with a pillow between the legs you can turn onto your side.  Patience is the name of the game I'm afraid but it will be worth it.

If you google safe sex positions after THR it will show you pictures of the best positions. I slept on my back for six weeks and now find it more comfortable than my side

    Hi Chelsea

I had uncemented ceramic on ceramic as easier to replace if required apparently. When I saw my consultant at 6 weeks he said I could have sex then but had to be careful of positions. I was a bit worried at first but all fine.
