Hi grace! We have the same symptoms. Been suffering since February. Lower abdominal pain, lower left and right. The pain is not severe but its always there the whole day. I also have soft stool and undigested food, I also see mucus in my stools sometimes. It also driving me crazy. All test were normal: whole abdomen ultrasound, urinalysis, trans-v, blood test and stool test. I'm not sure if this is IBS or something else. So scared to underrgo colonoscopy.

    Hope we feel better soon.

Hi 123eden456;  I am sorry about all the pain that you all are having, (I don't suffer from IBS, thank goodness); but am telling you, not to worry re having a Colonoscopy.  I had both in 2011, and yes, I felt uncomfortable thinking re someone doing a colonoscopy (threading a tube up my rectum)....but can reassure you, that there was nothing to it...the prep was easy, and I do not remember a single minute of the procedure.  There will be an Anaethetist there who will give you a light anaesthetic,  known as a narcolept, which enables you to co-operate with instructions, but also allows your memory to not register the process....have one ASAP, as it can be very diagnostic, and in some cases, life-saving.....Bron

I certainly didn't have a narcolept when I had mine last year; not sure I'd have wanted one either. It probably depends on where the procedure was carried out.

Despite the anaesthetic I found it fairly uncomfortable and it took forever. But it certainly wasn't as bad as the prostate biopsy I had the year before! And really it seems to be a necessary evil.

Thank you so much bronwyn! This kind of comment is really reassuring. I am taking meds right now, antispasmodic, omeprazole and antiobiotic for 7 days. If my symptoms didn't change the doctor will perform colonoscopy. It's my second today with the meds I'm hoping these will make me feel better. I didn't run in the toilet when I woke up today, I guess thats a good sign. Although i feel bloated when I woke up and pass lot of gas.

I'm not sure if you know what sort of anaesthetic you had?  A narcolept is a light sedative, given via a Canula in your arm, and only makes you drowsy...but if you ask anyone who has had a Narcolept, you will hear that ALL agree, it is certainly very beneficial....often used for young children so that they are not Traumatised by having to have treatment in an Emergency Situation  (even for a broken arm)....Bron

No idea what I had, but I wasn't drowsy. TBH I prefer to know what's going on, so I'd have refused, given the choice.

Hang in there! Try everything anyone suggests that seems like a possibility. See the Mayo Clinic's page on IBS too.

    Hello Grace

Until you stop worrying about this, it will not go away. You are making it worse as you already know because once the mind is worrying it upsets the digestive system. There is an excellent natural remedy called Organic Apple Cidar Vinegar by Braggs. You can buy it in the health food store. You can mix 1 teaspoon of Apple Cidar Vinegar with 8 ounces of warm water. Drink it slowly with a straw so it doesn't stain the teeth or hurt the enamel. Take it after you eat lunch and again after you eat supper. This will help neutralize your food so you digest it better. Start out slow, maybe only drink half of the mixture until you get use to it because it does have a horrible taste. But only things that work do have a horrible taste, we all know that. This will also help Gerd ( acid reflux) if you suffer from that as well.

The second thing is the more you worry the worse you will get. The mind and body go hand in hand. If your mind is relaxed your body will follow but it cannot do that until you start relax. Go for a walk, read a book, watch a good comedy, GET AWAY FROM YOUR OWN THOUGHTS. THATS WHAT IS DOING THIS AS WELL. YOU HAVE TO STOP DWELLING ON THE NEGATIVES THAT ARE GOING THROUGH YOUR HEAD. I HAVE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT AND ALL IT DOES IS MAKE YOU SICK.

I hope you will try the Apple Cidar Vinegar and change your thinking from negative to positive. Get some books on how to change your thoughts from the library. Instead of thinking bad things all the time, start reading how to handle stress and anxiety. I know it is easier said then done, but once you strart training your mind to enjoy positive thoughts instead of all the negatives your health will improve and your digestive system will no longer be knots of undigested food. Get ready for that wonderfu holiday ahead of you.

May God Bless you and guide you to better health

                                             Lynn

I had all your symptoms. I did a patch test for nichel allergy...BINGO!!! It causes all these symptoms. Maybe have the test and see. I have been on a nichel free diet for 2 months now and feeling really good. Hope all goes well for you.

      Hi Susan

I don't understand your comment about a nichel free diet having some bearing on IBS?  A nickel allergy affects the skin which is treated with creams.  Nickel isn't in food, it's a skin contact with items containing nickel problem as I understand it which causes a skin rash.

Could you please explain a 'nickel (nichel) free diet' and how it can help the symptoms of IBS?

      Curious!

Wow!  You learn something new every day!  I have a nickel allergy so I was curious about your comment about the nickel free diet (see my comment above) so I googled it and found the Low Nickel Diet in Dermatology by Ashimav D Sharma.  Very interesting!

I haven't had chance to read it all yet, but definitely will do.  I have just avoided nickel in jewellery etc, not realising it was in food or that it could have a bearing on general health and IBS in particular.

Thanks for this information, but would like to know what are the main foods you are avoiding?

It certainly doesn't sound like IBS to me. As you're about to go on holiday I would definitely see the Doctor. The other thing you should start doing is trying to work out what foods upset you most. Eat simple meals (not too many different ingredients) and keep a record.

Try going meditranion diet only when you get there.

Last time I went on hols i did and I felt so much better

Hope it sorts it self out. If its hot where your going you'll need energy good advice is make sure you have fresh raw oils with each meal.

Take a good supply of oils I actually find tho after a few days in the heat I relax more so you won't be to bad.
