Im gonna kill myself

Its been 3 months since my laser surgery for my OLP. i was doing great and back to eating normally. Almost felt like i had my life back... Now i have a new sore about 1/2 inch down from where the old one was and its BIG. I think its the result of friction from eating some french fries a few days ago..they were pretty salty, The sore is  right on the underside of the tongue.  i cant take this anymore- i had the last one for 5 months and then went through 3 weeks of excruciating pain recovering from the laser procedure. i cant go thru that again. i lost so much weight cause i couldnt eat and couldnt talk,  now I dont know what to do. i put weight back on and am afraid im gonna lose it again.  Can i heal this sore without going on an all liquid diet?  its right on the muscle of the tongue that is always used during speaking and chewing.

Oh Jason, so sorry you are struggling again. We don't have the answers I'm afraid but what we can and must do is support each other through these horrible difficult times. Could you try a milk based diet which whilst a little bland will give you nourishment and means little chewing too do that you don't aggravate the sore? Rice pudding with nutmeg in, a chicken and veg  soup you have put through the good processor, weetabix you have let get soggy with milk? I have used .01% eumovate hydrocortisone on my tongue and it provides relief. My pharmacist says I can use it for up to 7 days continuously and it works well for me as long as I stay off the things I know aggregate it afterwards for a couple of weeks at least. I think this gives any repairing chance to establish itself. So sorry you aren't well. You must try not to stress too as we know that's possibly the main cause in the first place...I know....easier said than done. Please try to find that place inside yourself that is positive and hold on to that. Take good care. We will all support you as much as we can. Gail

Hi Jason, hope you will be feeling more positive soon. There has to be something to help you just have to keep trying.  I've been seeing a naturapath and she is treating my OLP with a 'candida' diet, she has had success with others in the past, says you have to eat healthy, limit bread and dairy, and says no sugar, no sugar, no sugar.  My OLP is mild at this stage so I think the diet must be helping.  She also suggests a homemade mouthwash of few drops of tea tree oil in water with some probotiocs (powder or open a capsule).  I've added a couple drops of colloidal silver and some salt for good measure which would help with ulcers maybe. I hope this info help you, I really do.  Please try and let us know how you go. If you find anything else to try please also let us know.  Important to stay positive and keep telling yourself you are going to beat this, and you will find healing!!!  May I tell you my story briefly... few years ago I had an 'incurable' cancer, was given treatment to help keep it down and guess what, I'm now in complete remission.  That's why I believe in importance of being positiive and believing there is something that will come along to help you. Stay in there, we're here waiting to hear from you.

Jason, you poor thing! Sorry to hear that you have had such a setback.  I can understand why you would not want to have laser treatment again, so I think I would maybe try something different this time if I were in your shoes.   The main thing that you probably already know is to give up all sugars immediately, as it appears Lichen planus and Lichen Sclerosus LOVE sugar, it brings on flare ups, it took me a while to figure out that this is in fact horribly TRUE, before I got my act together and drastically cut back.

Also, would you consider seeing a Homeopathist?  If you look online, there is a doctor in India that has had great results treating Oral Lichen Planus, you might find it interesting to read about it.  I totally believe this treatment works! I have not mentioned my OLP for quite some time, simply because I have not had a flare up!!  it has been months...  In the meantime, don't have anything that will aggravate your tongue, gargle with warm salt water three times a day, and consider buying some Ensure drinks for when you might need to avoid eating for a while.

You have to remain positive, I know its hard, there is not much worse in my opinion than OLP it is terrible and painful.  (Hugs)

Thanks all-  cutting out sugar is hard for me since i lose weight very quickly and become skinny as a rail. I dont eat any processed foods and am gluten free.  really the only sugar i consume is from honey and fruits. I eat bannanas every day and make smoothies with coconut milk and fruit. Also i am not sure if my new sore is lichen planus related..i only assumed cause it was on the same side of my tongue as last time but its in a different spot and there isnt that characteristic tissue transformation surrounding the sore like there has been in the past. maye its just an ulceration.  For weeks i was eating normally, had a little alcohol and was fine.  then a few days ago i ate some sweet potatoe fries that were pretty salty and that seemd to set it off.  Also meant to ask when you guys get flare ups do you experience a weird almost metallic sour taste in your mouth? i do seem to get that as well..  I am speaking to a special hollistic doctor in december who seems like a genius so maybe he can help.

Jason, you don't need sugar to keep your weight maintained, there are other foods that can help with that.  Remember that too much fruit is not great too, they are often full of sugar, like bananas for example. The sour metallic taste in your mouth is classic OLP and is something I used to experience a lot, it is not pleasant.

It's good that you are going to see a holistic doctor, he may be able to help, its worth a shot! Let us know how you get on.

Your welcome...remember we are here for you whenever you feel bad. What people don't realise is the stress Oral lichen planus causes, it is hard to explain to someone that doesn't have this condition, just how hideous it is... in some respects it is worse to deal with than Lichen sclerosus.  I can remember feeling quite distraught during a particularly nasty outbreak!!!.

I lost 7 Kg when I developed erosive OLP. What sort of topical steroids do you take. I take 2x betnesol 0.5 mg twice daily (initially I used one 4 x daily). Initially I dissolved these in water first and held them in my mouth for as long as I could, but soon took to just crushing them with my teeth and waiting 10-30 mins before spitting the saliva out - which is important so as not to get systemic steroid side effects. I have not had thrush using the mouthwash, but I have had it with other topical steroid.

From personal experience I would also recommend green tea extract - one thing to try would be to place a tablet against the ulcer for a few minutes a couple of times a day.

    Hi Jason,

Keep your spirits up always. There will be days you will be depressed, but rise about it. It can be so depressing not being able to speak or eat the foods you like.

I too have mucosal OLP and sometimes it is the toungue, inside of the cheeks and now its inflammed my lips. Like some have said, betnesol dispersible tabs are good to give relief. However steroids are best prescribed and managed by doctors. I am now on a steroid sparring immunosuppressant as I developed diabetes from having steroids.

I love french fies too, Burgers, pizza etc. Because of fibration in my mouth i have to exercise to be able to open my mouth at least an inch plus. A healthy mouth can wrap the lips around a massive burger. But we have to change our ways. Eating food that is soft on the insides of the mouth is essential. You can have nutrious food and not lose weight.

Do some meditation. It will certainly not make you more sick in any event
