Im still in pain, should I have this removed.

I recently had my Boston Scientific SCS put in back in September 2017 for lower back and leg pain. Worst mistake that I've ever made. Ever since the surgery, I've have had pain and tenderness around my stomach area. And I also feel shooting pain from the area in my lower back where they implanted the Unit/battery. It also feels like the unit is actually trying to work its way out of my skin, almost like it wasn't placed in properly. I'm contemplating on having it removed, but I'm worried that it will cause more pain than what its worth. They had to stick me 20+ times to get the paddle leads in place, which I think they messed up a nerve and that's where the pain and tenderness is coming from, a complication of them sticking me so many times. I'm really concerned that if I have them remove the SCS unit that it will make things worse. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Scott,

Sorry to ask, are you the same person who was here before? In Scotland, and had lots of surgeries, latest in Spire hospital?

Honestly if I was in so much pain and discomfort, and felt it outweighed the benefits of the SCS I would have it removed.

I had a trial years ago, but it was for two levels and they couldn't get the position right so never went ahead with it.

It could be that it's annoying a nerve, and hopefully it would repair itself if you had the thing taken out.

It doesn't sound good, I really feel for you.

      Hey Laura,

No, im not the same person. My trial period went great! its hard for me to understand how it could go so well and the actual implant go so bad. im definitely gonna speak with my pain doctor about it.

Hope you get somewhere Scott. It's awful to have huge expectations of pain relief to then be in more pain. All the best.

Hi Scott, which I could be of some help to you but I sit in the same seat as you. I've had mine for about 15 months now, 1st 7 months I was on top of the world I truly can say I was 100% pain free, after seven months my world crashed, my rep has program me several times now I have a program called the BURST still feel pain but this program is better than the other 4 I have. I've thought about having mine removed do to so many complications, but where do we go. I've really had enough pain pills in my life, but with this opioid epidemic who say we will be able to get what we need to stay put of pain. Plus I deal with (key word deal) with depression and pain and depression are not friends. I've read a few post where the pain is worst after taken it out hmmm. One thing for sure you can talk to your Dr but my rep told me don't worry about talking to them they only know how to put them in and take them out, in which I have found this to be true. Wishing you the BEST on your decision, Joy

Scott, Joy again notice you said you have stomach pain, well so do I and at this time taking 10mg of Lortab. As much as I have tried to get off pain meds that seems the only way to get rid of the stomach pain which feels like someone is pulling the femoral nerve. Are you taking any pain meds that might help some, but as I said in my previous post due to the opioid crisis that's going on now don't no how long that may last. If you are not maybe you can try that and see if it will give you any relief, I 've been in pain management for a while and they would prescribe 90 now they only prescribe me 60 I'm which it takes the edge off the pain. Don't know if you take any meds but having the stimulator for such a short time it may take a while to adjust. But who am I to speak of that just offering ideas, I don't know like I said I had a wonderful 7 months pain free why I went south no one can tell me, I'm just in the mind set of trying to know this is me and trying to adjust and hopefully I'm wrong that I am going to learn how to deal with pain in my life. Just a suggestion I was thinking of to hopefully help you. Again BEST wishes in your decision from one of many who knows living with pain on a daily basis sucks, I have not heard of any other so called man made miraculously inventions

Joy, at the moment I’m just taking gabapentin and tramadol for my pain! The tramadol seems to help me a little with the pain, they prescribed me one a day. But, like I said, it helps with that pain. But in the same process I’ve noticed every time a take a tramadol, I get a massive headache within hours of me taking it. I’m gonna talk to my pain doctor to see if they can prescribe anything else that may be equivalent to the same strength. I got a very high tolerance for pain, so I don’t need something strong, just something mild to help while I sleep.

Thank you for your input, and I wish you well as well!
