Imodium miracle cure?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi all know you all know your stuff on here so thought I would ask. I have had pi ibs since last October I randomly came across Imodium with simeticone in it and started taking one every morning it's like a miracle cure I feel better than I have felt since the start with this.

If I don't take it I'm straight back to square one my bowel movements are still slimey but the constant tummy ache has gone and only going now at least twice a day instead of 6.

as all of you my anxiety is high and I'm worried that I am just hiding something more serious by taking the daily Imodium help anyone?

Hi linzi:  I too rely on imodium when I'm experiencing flares.  I suffer from IBS-A mostly stress induced.  I always have a bottle of the liquid in the house but I want to try the gel caps or tablets.  Just be careful not to OD on the stuff (easy to do when you're experiencing a flare of d.)  I have to look to see if I can buy it with simetione -- the stuff in my bottle doesn't have that.  I don't think you are in any danger by taking it but I do question why you take it daily?  I only take it when I'm experiencing d flares.  Not sure I'd take it everyday.  Might want to ask the pharmacist, a physician and/or do some net searching.  Glad to know you are feeling better.

Immodium is a miracle cure for me too. Please don't worry about taking it. My doctor told me it does not long term harm on the body even if you take it all the time. One tablet a day settles my stomach and makes my system normal again.

Thankyou if I could jump through the screen and hug you I would lol do you find you still get the mucus? But the Imodium just settles everything?

Since you have been diagnosed with IBS and nothing else, there is no need to worry that Imodium is masking another problem. Since Imodium is helping your symptoms, this is making your life better.  Continue doing what you are doing.  Overthinking will make your anxiety worse and will worsen your IBS.

Thank you I think it's because they refuse to give me any other tests as I have no red flags I just panic sometimes x

If they are not giving you other tests because you have not got any red flags, this should be very encouraging for you and should not make you panic.  Having red flags would be more of a reason to panic.  One doctor wanted to do all my tests again because he couldn't diagnose me.  The thought of this made me panic so I saw another doctor who told me that since all my tests were negative, and I had had the same symptoms for three months wirh no new ones appearing, there was no need for retesting. Being told this and being given an IBS diagnosis, got rid of my anxiety.

There was only one doctor who was able to help me in my surgery and that was after going eight times for help.  In the future, if you feel your doctor has not explained himself to you, ask for further clarification and that will ease your anxiety. I think some doctors assume we are satisfied or understand the answers they give us when in fact we don't. I think it is unatural for them to explain things in our language and sometimes people feel too embarrassed to ask for this to be done.  In the end, we can end up even more anxious because we haven't been given any reassurance.  You can always change your doctor if you feel someone else is better at relieving your worries.

I could tell instantly that most of my doctors were unable to give me answers, so I kept seeing different ones until I found someone more suitable.

I replied to your post before wondering why you are taking Imodium every day because the bottle I have reads that it should be used not longer than 48 hours.  Then I saw that what I have does not contain Simethicone and I'm wondering if that makes a difference in how it should be taken?  I keep forgetting that most of the folks in this forum are in or around the UK --  I'm in the US.  After a recent colonoscopy/endoscopy, I was diagnosed with IBS-A AGAIN (about the 4th time in my adult life).  I have stress-induced IBS.  Anyway, when I looked up Simethicone aka Gas-X it also releaves extra gas such as belching, bloating, and feelings of pressure/discomfort in the stomach/gut.  I'd like to know if the "how to take" instructions on the product you are using that would limit the intake?

    Thanx for your reply.

Hiya I am a pharmacist so I wasn't too worried about taking them every day they really don't do any damage. You can find simethicone in deflatine or windeze you can pretty much take as much as you like. I was more concerned that the daily use could hide symptoms of something more sinister as I'm only 31 and suffer from ptsd I can be a little suggestible lol xx (ps jealous you are in the us)

thanx linzi I appreciate your reply.  I ordered imodium with simethicone in tablet form (I wanted caps but isn't available here).  So I'm looking at downing more horse sized pills.  Oh well, if they work, it's worth it.  Listen, don't be jealous of my living in the US.  I think IBS is on the increase becasue of the antics of the current administration.  cry

Ordered two bottles today.  One question.  Can the tablets be cut and then taken, since I have a difficult time swallowing large pills.  Thanx again for your input, you have been very helpful.  Now, hopefully, they will work for me as well as they have for you.

I don't think it would hurt to cut them but sometimes it can alter the way they work can you get windeze in the us might be worth taking that which is tiny and can be sucked with the liquid Imodium
