Impatient and frustrated - I need to exercise as I'm going crazy without it!

Hi there

I have recently been diagnosed! and although against being labelled it has helped my progress moving forwards, however coming from an extremelly active lifestyle and starting to adjust a step at a time I have found that no matter how small and patiently I begin my new exercise regime I incurr injury after injury. I am currently nursing a broken ankle that I did when out walking after 4 weeks back on track of steady exercise, my ankle gave way and snapped. I eat well, sleep well but I am now feeling that I am constantly on 2 steps forwards 20 steps back and I just don't feel myself. Has anyone else had such experiences? If so I would love to hear how you manage and get back on track when everything you read says to exercise and eat well - which is what I have always done!?!? With thanks

Not for 10 years, thank you that's a good idea, I will call my G.P.tomorrow to refer me.

Do that hon, Any bone easily broken should be looked into, but you may have difficulty persuading your GP I have osteoporosis and asked for the scan and was refused , so paid for it privately and the scan proved that the condition was in reverse so need not take the medication any more, which I had stopped taking after only three years when the time length should be five years, I contribute this to taking diatomatious earth every day for over a year, I stopped taking the medication two years ago because it made me feel ill, let me know how you get on, I shall continue to take diatomaceous earth, because my bones are getting stronger and instead of continuing to shrink (down to 4ft 9ins) , I have regained 1/2 ins I did inform my GP that I was taking DE, much better than putting a chemical into my body every 7 days

I will certainly give it a go. I was put under the emergencey admissions team a couple of weekends ago as the fibro made it impossible to move around as I could not use crutches etc so I am luckily enough getting really great physio, occupational health visits etc so I wil see what they say too. Thank you for your repsonse it sounds like you have had a challenging time too, I am glad you are improving though that is great news. All the best too.

Yes I am really improving thank you, my osteoporosis became really bad when I had to take steroids for polymyalgia rheumatica which is similar to fibromyalgia, but a change in diet also helped a great deal, I am happy you have some great backup, I unfortunately was on my own with help only from super neighbours keep pushing you don't get anywhere if you don't make a fuss as I have learned, I couldn't push because I was living in Cyprus at the time, get yourself as much help as possible you deserve it

I am really pleased you are improving. You are so right regarding the keep on pushing for help - if I did not have the emergency referral I would be in a really bad place right now. I get frustrated as G.p's hospitals physios etc all assume there is someone/people on hand so they leave you alone. So I am looking into changing that if possible as it is scary to think how many people of any age/disability must just get left unassissted. The system is crazy and I am also fed up of seeing particular people claiming benefits and doing a tap dance (literally saw this) in the high street with crutches in hand and I am still waiting for benefits since April - even thouh I am on the emergency list. Sorry to rant I just get frustrated. I do know however I am on the right track and keeping positive and smiling through it :-)

Swimming in warm water. I don't recommend cold water as it makes my body tense (not good for Fibro).  The strain on the body and bones is so much less than walking or running.  It's great all body exercise.  If you're up to it you could try water arobics?

      Hi Julie

Thank you for your feedback, yes swimming seems to be the best option for me with the fibro but as in a cast at present I am not able to - hence the going slightly crazy ha ha.
