Implant problems !!

Hi.. I will more than likely be going to my GP about this anyway but wanted to know if other people have experienced the same and know how to help....

I got the contraceptive implant in September 2016 after trying god knows how many contraceptive pills - none suited me well. I was told to expect random bleeding, fine. But I have been bleeding now (not an exaggeration at all) every single day since I had it put in. Some days it'll be just a spot, and some days random heavy flowing throughout the day. I went to the doctors in December to ask if this was normal, they said it should settle but to take a pill (can't remember which one) on top for 6 weeks to try and help my periods settle. Anyway I took it for three, as I could tell it was causing me to be more moody, and although some days I wouldn't have any bleeding, the majority of the time I still would! It barely helped. And the whole point of the implant was the stop wth the pills.

So I have stopped the pill now, and I'm still bleeding daily! sad also A key time I have noticed I bleed is after sex. I'm quite worried about all this. Does anyone have any advice ?

Many thanks!

Abi

I just got my Nexplanon implant taken out last week after having it for 3 years so it was due to be taken out. The first year I had no period, the two year my period came back and was around 14 days long and very heavy and not long after that it began to to continue to be longer and longer..up to a month long at times. It was terrible. I finally ask for a pill (they gave me Quasense) birth control for a 3 month supply. I took it for two months and it didn't help at all! So I never took the 3rd month and after I stopped taking it I then didn't have a period for two months and now I have an IUD and will see how that works for my periods. So I'd either ask for a different possibly stronger pill or I'd maybe try something else? I'm sorry. I'm sure that wasn't very helpful but just my experience. sad

Hi I only just saw your post about nexplanon and you're the only one I have seen mention post sex bleeding which I had never had in my life before and I m 47 ! So I put it down to the implant and the fact that I too had long never ending periods since it was put in so spent a few months on the combo pill as well which did stop the periods but I was bleeding sometimes during and after sex instead !! which was quite frightening and my gp sent me for an ultrasound and vaginal one at the same time nothing to worry about and they found nothing thankfully. I reckon it was because my periods had been suppressed but why I should bleed after sex is still a mystery and touch wood hasn't happened since I've been on the implant alone since jan this year. All seemed to have settled I had three periods spaced properly and 4-6 days long got excited thinking I was sorted at last then had two periods in march and am on again now and it s been long and heavy I ve had enough now and am going to ask to have it removed and go on the pill instead if the gp will let me. I thought I d try the implant as is supposed to be safer but am sick to death of bleeding all the time hope you found something better. I been struggling to find the right thing since 2015. Bring on the menopause !!!
