Impossible to get a HIDA scan

Posted , 3 users are following.

So it's been over two months since I first tried to get refered to have a HIDA Scan done, and I am still waiting for that to happen. Appearantly it's too much to ask in my country, and nobody seems to know what the f*** a HIDA Scan is. I found certain hospitals which does the procedure and my GP refered me, yet the hospital rejected it due to the fact they don't know how to interpret the results! I'm getting so frustrated!

Sorry, just had to share my frustration. Urgh!

Anyone else had trouble getting a HIDA scan done? How did you manage to get it?

That's a simple test. It's not fun I will warn you. Make sure you pay attention to the results . My gallbladder was not that low funtioning but they still took my G/B out and I still have pain.

Yeah but at least you had it done. It seems impossible for me to get that procedure. How long ago has it been since you had your GB removed?

I asked for a Hida scan and the next day was able to have it. That has to be very frustrating. The more I read after the fact many doctors say don't remove the gallbladder if there are no stones. I did not have stones and I'm in sonewhT of the same pai but it seems like the norm since I've had it for at least 15 months. You don't know what to do besides Doctor to Doctor and try and function. No one can see your pai so it makes life very difficult. Good luck I would love for one person to say they found out where the pain was coming from and had a solution.

Sorry I don't know if you are in the UK. If so go to the Countess of Chester hospital and pay £360 you will get a HIDA scan. It really is not unpleasant at all. You get a couple of bars of chocolate to eat to stimulate the bile and lie still for a while that is all. Results are available virtually immediately. Good luck

I have looked into getting it done privately in the UK, so I really appreciate your reply. I have an apt. with a gastroentologist soon, and if he refuses, that might be the next step.
