Hi rahela, If you put several drops of olive oil or a wax spray from the chemist, it may soften the cotton bud and help it come out of your ear. It should at least take away the pressure which is causing the pain by allowing it to mould better to your canal. When you put the drops in, keep your head on the side laying down so they soak in. After 30 minutes lay on the sore ear to see if gravity helps move the fluff away from your eardrum towards your outer ear. If that doesn't work try it again and if that doesn't work see your GP to syringe your ear (which is what I would suggest anyway as ENTs are so expensive and not necessary in this situation if syringing hasn't been attempted.) Good luck!!!

I really appreciate your reply your a star.. Because its the tiniest amount i doubt its going to come out.. Have been using an ear spray etc but no luck.. Im scared to put in oil or anything like that just in case it makes it worse.. As im in uk treatment is free so not to worry

Thanks Rahela!! I don't think it's the fluff that's causing the pain but compacted wax. It's great that you are using an ear spray. Put a lot in. Syringing would wash it out if you can see a GP earlier.

No but I see it regularly and clean it out of people's ears. Did they say what is in there? Why didn't they try and syringe it out?

Sorry are you a doctor? They said its abit of fluff from a cotton bud.. They have given an appo to either take it out or syringe it

I would go to have a hearing test and tympanogram if they didn't do that at the ENT's appointment. The tymp will tell you if there is anything going on with your middle ear (behind your ear drum.) You may have just irritated a nerve. Has it settled down a little since you first did it? After this I would see a dentist. It may be coincidence that cleaning your ear and ear pain occurred at the same time. Maybe it is your jaw or tooth as they are so close to your ear that it can manifest as ear pain.

Bless u really appreciate ur comments.. I will request those things at my nxt appo wich is in three weeks! The pain is wierd.. Sometimes its in both ears.. At times in one and at times i dnt feel any pain.. What could that be? I will make a trip to my dentist

I am not an ENT or dentist but if it comes and goes and is in one or both ears without an ear infection being obvious to an ENT, I expect the dentist will say you are grinding your jaw and give you a splint.

I meant grind my jaw.. Its really bugging me as i hav pain in my neck and shoulder with it

Could it be your back/neck? A chiropractor or physiotherapist might be able to help. Sometimes it can be referred pain. I meant grind your teeth lol!!!

Hahaha grind my teeth jaw same thing lol.. I dont do that.. The pain is 100% from my ears.. Im in agony it stops me from sleeping i cant do anything! Why are ent not able to tell me anythin?!

Not sure. I have found regularly that clients that are sure the pain is from their ears, find it is from surrounding muscles and teeth. It is worth exploring everything to rule it out. Good luck x
