In need of strong support on third week of Sertraline

Today (Day 19) feels like my worst day yet on Sertraline. I woke up with an extremely low mood, along with feeling very sped up with horrible anxiety. It's getting really hard to continue like this, but I've seen so many positive reviews that I just know I wouldn't forgive myself if I gave up on Sertraline. It's hard though. I haven't felt this bad since starting this med. Any advice on whether I should possibly stop taking it for a few days or how long this horrible feeling will last would be greatly appreciated. It's just hard to calm myself down right now and I'm actually having second thoughts about Sertraline. I'm in dire need of a decent day. Is this normal because I'm not sure if how much I can take if it would get even worse in the coming days?

don't stop and start the med as this will set you back on days of recovery x you might end up feeling worse than you do stopping and starting. I know exactly how you feel!

week 3 was a real tough week. I'm on weeks six tomorrow. I'll send you something in Hope's it will help you understand what you are going through is completely normal x

Hey buddy! Just wanted to check on your progress. Are you still on sertraline? If so, how's it going? Is it starting to help you at all yet? I know you were going through a rough ride for awhile. Hoping you are on your way to better days!

I had a good day yesterday. Today started with some anxiety, but by late morning that seems to level off and things are getting better again. Not where I need to be but better than it's been for awhile. I'm on day 37 (six weeks, 2 days) and my doctor told me that this is when it should start to really kick in. Staying hopeful! Hope things are going better for you!

Hi, I am so sorry you're feeling rough right now. The first thing I will say is do not stop taking it, even for a few days to then start again, this will only mess with your system more and will likely make you feel worse. It's hard to say really with a timeframe as some people get side effects for two weeks, some for six, some people don't get any at all. For most people though I think the side effects start to subside around the two to three week mark and you start seeing some improvements around about the six to eight week mark. It's frustrating I know, that it takes so long but you really do need to stick with it and give the meds time to start working.

It might be worth going back to your doctor who may be able to prescribe you something else to take alongside the Sertraline just for the immediate future to get you through the side effects.

Don't stop you are almost about to start feeling better . you should feel better gradually from week 4 and by week 8 boom you will wake up totally fine .

i felt normal on week 12 then down again for a couple of days then week 16 i was great .

hang in there . if not feeling good after that time you should revise with your doctor maybe a higher dose needed .

Thanks all for giving me more hope. I was feeling much better than this before I started taking sertraline and I then I had a decent day or two around day 14, but this past week I have been feeling gradually worse, with today being the worst so far. I do have xanax that I can take for anxiety, but even the xanax is having a hard time calming this anxiety. The worst part of it seems to be the extremely low mood (and no clue why my eyes would be burning and noticeably bloodshot). My mood hasn't felt this low in a long time. I will continue to take the sertraline because this is the longest I've ever made it on this med, and don't want to set back my progress, but damn, I must admit that it has me pretty intimidated right now. I just hope this med ends up working for me because I can't imagine going through this much hell just to find out that it's not the med for me.

My eyes were burning a lot too for at least five weeks.

Did the burning eyes go away for you after the five weeks? Did sertraline eventually work for you? If so, about how long did it take?

I am now at the eight-week mark. The burning is diminished, not completely gone. More importantly, I feel much better with anxiety greatly reduced and, subsequently, better sleep.

But I am using this relief to develop new long-term strategies for anxiety, chiefly closed-focus meditation. I am also looking into supplements that have a history of offering benefits for anxiety sufferers. I am very fortunate that the sertraline seems to work again but I don't want to take it for the rest of my life.

That's great! It sounds like are very proactive in taking the smart path. So glad to hear that things are working out for you. Today has been a better day for me so far and tonight Mark's the beginning of my fourth week. I have made my mind up that this medicine is increasing my serotonin levels, so it can only be a good thing. Had to really calm my mind down and know that I'm through the worst part of this now. Things should gradually get better now.

Hi Brandi. Today is day 32 for me. My moods have been back and forth for the past week, but I have to say that so far this morning I feel better than I have in awhile. Just found out yesterday that I have a sinus infection and may have been blaming the sertraline for some of those symptoms. I started an antibiotic yesterday and already starting to feel much better this morning than I did yesterday which is a good sign. I have had some good days where it feels like it's definitely working, but it hasn't been consistent enough to know for sure yet. Most of what I have read and been told in these forums is that it should gradually get better from here. Especially by week 6. I will tell you that my appetite is returning and I don't feel nauseous anymore, but there are good and bad days right now so will continue to take it now that I'm approaching week 6. I feel like the side effects are beginning to lift at this point. I'm glad to keep you updated on my progress, but it seems to me that there is nothing to lose and so much to gain by taking it and fighting through the first 4-6 weeks.
