In pain and worried about upcoming banding

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to read, and i apologise in advance for the picture but really needing some advice.

I am having banding done in 10 days, im worried because when i got referred to the surgeon he didn't even look at my heaemorrhoids to determing the type/grade.  I have read that banding can only be done on internal ones so i am majorly stressing.  I have suffered with these since i had my first son 9 years ago and they have gotten progressively worse. they have been at the stage they are atm for about 3 years. I can no longer sit comfortably.  I dont suffer from constipation, rather completely the opposite (im having a colonoscopy at the same time as this procedure). I have not been able to push these back inside for the last 2 years. they do bleed about once a week as well.  any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you

So sorry!! I would definitely get a second opinion. I had grade 4 and your look pretty bad. Not trying to scare you. I had to get mine stapled. It looks like to me your hemis are to big for banding, but I am not a dr. But I have dealt with 5 surgeries because of my hemrriods. Mine your super bad. Looked close to yours. Please go with your gut. Good luck

Thank you for you're reply. I really cant change surgeons as i have been on the waiting list for about 6 months to get this done. Im thinking when i go in on the morning ill just give them permission to do what they need to do to get rid of them. I thought that they were grade 4. Now im scared more than ever. ??

I am sorry if I scared you more. Good idea on talking to your surgeon. Are you going under? Just tell him your concerns. You must not be in the usa? Good luck,

No need to say sorry im just glad i have a little insight on what grade they possibly could be. I think i may be going under the surgeon just rushed me in and out in about 5 minutes when i had an appointment with him. Im in Australia.

Krrystaldawn, Please get a second opinion. If the answer is the same then you will feel relaxed, if it's not then maybe you need a third opinion. I don't want to scare you either - I'm not sure if you can click on my name and see the report I wrote of the bad experience that I have just had. I was not nearly as bad as you but I did have incorrect pre-op information that put me back into hospital for 9 days and 3 blood transfusions. You must be comfortable with your doc. I ended up going with the third I saw. Also note, - and i really can't imagine the pain you are going through but the recovery time for me is now on week 6 and I am still having to use laxatives, stool softners, very limited diet and only stopped taking pain killers 2 days ago but need valium to relax to go to the bathroom. I reallly feel for everyone going throguh this and you sound like you have had a really rough time but a second opinion may jusy put your mind at ease before you go in for surgery. I wish you all the best.

      Thanks for your reply,

I was freaking out and thought that id go and have a chat to my referring gp this morning, and what a fat waste of time that was. I was made to feel like a complete idiot.  He told me that they would definitely band them. He told me that they would just push them back inside and band them then. I cant even push them back inside. I am now feeling so ill at the thought of all this :-(

so, so sorry - I feel the same about the Doc I ended up with and she was the third Dr I saw and someone who had a good reputation but since I had complications caused by mistakes from her office I don't even like going for my follow up. You are not a complete idiot - we have every right to be scared - that's why we go to Drs for advice and help. -

Are there any other specialists in your area you can get into to see?

If not and it seems you have the right information then make sure you definately clean yourself out the day before - or longer - laxatives or whatever they tell you (this was the information I wasn't given) .This is so important.  I live alone and have had friends stay with me since my op 6 weeks ago.  I don't know much about banding but I do know a Sitz bath has helped me a lot. Painkillers are helpful obviously but can cause constipation. so balanced this out with changing my diet.  I've got better info from reading what people have said on here, Recover seems to take longer than we are told. But you will get there. It really is a matter of time.  I have found lots of comfort from being on this site - just knowing that I am not alone. Any time you have questions - peopel on here will answer you - they helped me when I was at my lowest. And since my op I have talked to so many people about it - it's the unspoken op that we need to talk about. Every single person has to poop so this should be a normal conversation so we can relax.

Thought id update in here. Oh my god i had the procedure on thursday, its now saturday and have been to emergency room twice since. They sent me home with no pain killers. By 7.30pm i was in excruciating pain. Im talking 20/10. And i have given birth to 2 x 10lb babies and would do that agaon over this pain. Now come yesterday (the day after the procedure) i wasnt able to keep anything down and spent the whole day vomitting, i could barely move. Now today im still in some pain, cant walk without it hurting. This is the worst experience of my life. Apparently there is stitches down there and the hemorrhoids are bulging at the minute. I dont know if this is why i am in so much pain. Stitz baths help and id spend the whole day in one of i could

Krystledawn. I've Been there and so have many others on here. So we're with you. Me especially as i was admitted back into hospital for 9 days stay and 3 blood transfusions and again back to ER a week later. I understand every one of your issues as I have had them all - I'm female in my 50's. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. It's going to take time - I'm sorry to say - it seems never ending - and the recovery can be slow. I take 2 stool softners every day and natural Psyllium. At first I just had smoothies - very basic and soup with gluten free bread if I ate anything at all. I did find that Sitz baths help - and I actully have my BM in it every day - it does become a bit messy and i have a whole system to stand up - empty it immediately and fill with more warm water in case I have more to go. After this I shower in warm water and just let it run down my back and wash everything away. The warm water continues to sooth without having your cheeks spread like they are on the Sitz.  I have not wiped once since i left the hospital 9 weeks ago. I do then put a piece of folded kitchen towel/paper towel between my cheecks to dry without rubbing.

After my second or third wisit to my Dr she gave me some hydrocortisone creme to reduce the swelling - not sure if it works or not. I do have Lidocaine Ointment which has a numbing effect and helps.I am still swollen and sore after every BM but not as bad and yesterday she gave me perscripstion for Anusol suppositries - I htink you can getthese over the counter in Aus. - not sure if you can use them yet - but I am 9 weeks past and still swollen inside more than out and she said I can try these.

Please feel free to email me on here or privately or by clicking the envelope under my name (took me a while to find that) if I can be any help. Even if you just need to talk to someone to know you're not going crazy. If I think back now to a few weeks ago - I know I'm not in as much pain as I was but it seems to be a long path. Take it easy. I'm still bleeding with every BM and as long as it's not a lot I wa stold not to panic.

FYI - I vomitted the day after the proceedure as well. All night long so that seems 'normal' in my book - wasn't expecting it.
