Inability to work

Has anyone under 50 applied for disability and was approved? I'm looking for responses from people that only have fibromyalgia and no other illness.

I haven't applied yet, but it looks like I will have to soon. I heard that they used to be lieniet with it but then started getting strict. They are trying to get people to work with modifications at their job. My job required long hours and different shifts. Very demanding on my body. I've been looking for a new career but haven't found anything yet. I was lucky that I had inheritance but after a few years it has run out while I was trying to get diagnosed and my savings has been depleted. I don't think I can do full time so I am going to talk to my doc about maybe going on disability and working part time. You can technically still work on disability as long as it's pay is below a certain amount. Cause disability alone won't cover all my bills and going on disability would force me into another bracket and change my insurance. Who knows what the new insurance is going to be with the restructuring that's about to take place this year. Many people get turned down the first time but get approved on appeal. Some people say it's better to have a lawyer but that costs money too. I wish you the best of luck. Can't hurt to try though. Keep me posted.

Good to know. I'm on my own and worrying about my financials keep me up at night. I had my flares under control for a while and was about to start looking for work again when I got sick and bad flare hit. Think I made it worse with the stress of paying bills.

My husband only has Eplepsy and is currently going for diability, he's been denied twice so where hoping the tribunal will see him disabled enough to award him the disability payment. Me I don't qualify as yet for all I have insulin dependiant diabetes, spinal OA, and Fibro or so I was told I'm not yet disabed enough (depsite not being able to make it though an hour walmart without my legs giving out 15 minutes into the shopping trip).

Thanks for replying. I'm sorry your have such a hard time getting disability approved. I was told it is hard to get disability for fibromyalgia. You have to show how it affect you as far as activity. They don't just look at diagnosis but how it actually affect your ability to work.
