If anyone has an idea regarding the following please reply.

In April 2013 i had an emergency operation due to a perforated bowel ,In April 2014 i had the 2nd operation to rejoin my large intestine and rid me of the colostostmy bag.

4 Months ago i went to the hostpital for a follow up ,and complained (if thats the right word) that i had a large hard lump on my abdomin ,they said to come back .

This week i went back to be told "not to worry ,i had done really well ,and ignore it " its only an incisional hernia !!!   do they enlarge as time goes by ? its big now !!!..What would others do ?

Hi my mum had this after her emergency appendix operation and developed an incisional hernia, she waited over two years before she was operated on and it grew so big she looked 7 months pregnant by the time she had it operated on so hers did actually grow. Although this may not be the case with everyone. Hope this helps

I have an incisional hernia.  It has a lump of bowel sticking out of it and I'm supposed to be getting a repair before Xmas as it gets very painful at times.

I believe, though, that the bigger they are the less likely they are to strangulate.

I had my 1st hernia for 3 years before it was repaired and it didn't get bigger i that time

You need to get some advice.  It's really worrying when some health professionals pat you on the back and send you away feeling as though you have not been taken seriously or had your concerns addressed.  My husband has had a hernia near his groin for several years (he is in his mid 60s) and has been told to ignore it because it can cause more problems to fix it.  It does not bother him. His has been caused by lifting whereas yours has been caused by an operation.  You need to have your concerns addressed.

I have an incisional hernia and my whole stomach is huge and uncomfortable.  I shall be in clinic tomorrow and hopefully have some idea of when it will be reduced - with mesh.

Hi. Like yourself I had an emergency op last Xmas for a perforated intestine and peritonitis. I developed a wound infection and a collection of fluid around the bladder. After 16 days in the hospital I was sent home to recover. A long process as I'm sure you're aware. Forward wind to July 2014 I was told that I had developed an incisional hernia with 5 defects due to the previous wound infection. My surgeon advised that it needed to be repaired ASAP as it was done on 1st September. Open surgery, and another laparotomy. I recommend that you get it fixed because it would be dangerous to leave it untreated in the long term.

I won't sugar coat it.... It's a long healing process. One that I am still recovering from 3 months down the line despite being told it's a 4 to 6 weeks job and back to normal. There are many things I didn't know about such as a Seroma (build up of fluid around the newly installed mesh) nerve pain, limited mobility.  But it will heal with no long lasting effects. So I recommend that you book yourself in to get fixed.
