Incisional Hernia surgery
Posted , 2 users are following.
in 2018 I had a right hemi colectomy for stage 1 bowel cancer, Thankfully I am now cancer free but I have developed an incisional hernia it is about 3 inches long by 2 wide top right of my abdomen. I have had it about a year but lately it seems to have gotten bigger and when i eat it becomes sore. Another strange thing has started reccently, my abdomen sometimes spasms. I have had a lot of acid reflux over the last year and am now on Lansoprazole, It never occured to me that this could be due to the Hernia.
Anyhow, I seen my GP and he told me that it should be left alone seeing that it goes back in when I lie down. My discomfort and pain is getting worse and I cant be on my feet for too long as it begins to be very uncomfortable.
I know it will need surgery eventually but my GP told me the success rate is very poor and often the repairs only last a couple of years.
I am wondering if it would be worth asking for a referral to talk to a surgeon before I make a desicion.
Also, is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable like supports etc. I have changed my eating habits to small portions often rather than the traditional meals and this helps a little.
Any help or suggestions would be grateful

Hi, Jim:
I have similar hernia also because of an abdominal surgery. It has to be dealt with according to my GP and the specialists i consulted. Please see discussions started by Phil titled 'Anyone know about the British Hernia Centre?'. Very useful and loads of experiences.
