Incontinence following Anterior Repair

Morning ladies thought I would start a thread to see if anyone is having the same symptoms as me and if do what their experiences are.  I had an anterior bladder repair on the 25th May and following a few complications am now experiencing incontinence whenever I move.  Some days I can manage a few hours being dry but then it starts leaking.  Have been referred to a continence nurse and physio but because it is so close to my operation they are limited in what they can do.  So it's just doing kegels as best I can on my own and waiting to go back and see the surgeon.  Whilst in hospital I had two cat scans to make sure he bladder hadn't been knicked and they were clear. Am worried that the situation is not improving only way I can stay dry is if basically I limited my time on my feet. Am worried about going back to work and not being dry the thought is just so upsetting. I am trying to remain upbeat wear pads and try and get on with my recuperation what if this can't be fixed. Had a bad reaction o the anaesthetic and the thought of another operation to try and fix the continence terrifies me.  Sorry to moan but I would really appreciate any experiences and words if wisdom.

I can't give any advice re. the incontinence but regarding the anaesthetic. I had knee surgery a while ago and had a terrible reaction - couldn't even keep water down and was sick, sick sick. Was worse as it was day surgery and sent home even though I wasn't well. Didn't even make it to the hospital doors in a wheelchair without vomiting! I had worked myself up to a ridiculous point over this surgery - not the surgery itself but the anaesthetic. I told the surgeon and had a long consultation with the anaesthetist. I don't know what she gave me but whatever the concoction was it was the first time ever after surgery I not only wasn't sick I didn't even feel sick! Actually able to eat something a few hours after as well! My advice if you need further surgery is to tell them and impress upon them that it's not a little bit woozy but major whatever. There are different types of things you can be given. I have this anaesthetists name now and would definitely see if I could get her again!

Had urine checked not an infection theory is that prolapse was forming a plug when this was relocated then the bladder leaked.  Hopefully it's just retraining the pelvic floor muscles. Trouble is as I've said they cannot do much as the whole area is still swollen and the nurses won't even examine the pelvic floor muscles properly until the surgeon has seen me.  Surgeon is on holiday am assured I will see her when she returns but so far no appointment just feel as if I am being left to my own devices feels very unsatisfactory as apart from this am progressing well.  As I said if I stay off my feet then it's mostly ok but want to be up and about when I do I leak.

Oh gosh. I feel bad for you. Cyber hugs. I guess once you can start all the physio, you might be able to retrain everything. Surely if prolapse acted as a plug, then you would have had to push extra hard pre-op to just be able to pee anyway? Which you would think meant you were keeping all those muscles working very hard!! I have heard of that animal product procedure. I have everything crossed for a good outcome eventually for you!

Sad for you. How exactly did your Surgeon support the bladder back up in place? I had

TOP sling and it has totally solved previous stress incontinence. But for a few weeks post-op I had leakage like you which did get slowly worse. At wk 4 post-op I rang Surgeons rooms & his Nurse faxed a lab form to lab so I could go give them a mid-stream sample. It came back ecoli infection in bladder. Antibiotics cured that and leakage disappeared by end of the course. I didn't have any other UTI symptoms.

Bio something graft lol it's animal material.  I had no incontinence before so this just makes me feel as if operation wasn't worth it and can still feel a slight bulge.  All in all worse than I started I know they are saying give it time but am due back to work beginning of August and the thought of waiting and it still not being resolved is making me anxious.  Sorry for moaning know a lot of people suffer with incontinence every day.  Just wishing for a good outcome or at least a constructive treatment path.

I had hysterectomy with posterior and anterior repair in February.  I started being incontinent 3 weeks post op (about the same as you).  the last few weeks it has improved.  I have incontinence if I don't use the Ovestan oestregen cream for more than 2 or 3 days.  If you are post menopausal, ask your GP for oestregen as it helps a lot.   I have also cut down to a maximum of 1.5 litres liquid per day with decaff tea/coffee.  I have gone from soaking through a pad and wet trousers when walking in the early days to a little leak once or twice weekly.  I still wear a pad when going out any further than the corner shop in case I don't find a toilet in time

I am currently on HRT maybe need to bring this up with my surgeon not sure what GP will say as they only seem to refer you back to surgeon. Thanks for the information it all helps to see a way out of this particular situation
