Increase dose

Hi.  A year ago I had severe GAD.  I was prescribed Sertraline up to a dose if 150mg.  After the initial side effects lasting 8-12 weeks my life got back to normal and I felt great.  However 6 weeks ago I had a relapse following a stressful job situation.  It’s not as severe as last time but I wake everyday with tightness in my muscles, urgency for the loo and an adrenaline rush and knot in my stomach.  I’m still working and going out.  The dr upped my dose to 200mg 10 days ago.  I was just wondering (a) how long an increase takes to kick in and (b) are there any side effects from increasing.  Also has this happened to anyone else ?

Looking forward to some positive replies 😊

    Hi,

i too had my Sertraline upped to 200mg from 150mg and I think it took about a month for me to real notice the difference. I didn’t have any side effects from this increase which was good as I’d had bad side effects when starting this med. stick with it, Sertraline has been the best AD I’ve been on.

Thank you I’m hoping the next few weeks I will feel better like last year.  I don’t fancy changing meds at this stage x

Karen, tightness of the muscles and feeling a knot in the stomach are all part of the side effects, normally when you increase your dose, you're going to feel some effects but not like when you first started taking the med, sometimes none, depends on the person, keep in mind that different manufacturers make Sertraline and most people feel the difference. As far as the new higher dose, it should kick in about a week.

Thank you.  Funny you say about brand as I’m sure this was a contributor to the relapse as I’m taking Accord and they gave me Dr Rennes !! I’m back in Accord now.  Hate anxiety and symptoms xx
