Increase in breast size after TAH

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had TAH and BSO in February and have noticed an increase in breast size . Anyone else noticed this. Assume this is to do with hormones , hrt etc . I know I have put on a bit of weight after op but really feel like my chest is expanding! I read article about some poor lady who went up nine sizes post op and I am now having bit of a panic! Any comments appreciated.

    Hi

I certainly have put half a stone on since my op in April and my chest has expanded but also my backside and hips! Absolutely gutted, I'm on HRT patches and have been told you can put 2 stone on! I really hope not X

Oh dear, I sympathise, I know I have put some on. Saw gp today and she said can be a side effect of hrt and to try reduced dose so will give it a go.

    Hi.

I have put on about a stone since my op in April.

I feel bigger all over not just my chest.

I am back exercising but can't seem to shift weight especially around my tummy and bum. I am hoping in time I will get back to normal. I am taking hrt in the form of a gel.

I feel this too. I've put on 2 stone and am now a H bra! !!!!! I've been on gel hrt for 2 weeks but it's not going the other way yet so what I was blaming on steroids after op doesn't seem to be the case 😕

Sorry to hear about having to go back to see dr. I always think once you have been cut about then never the same again! Scar tissue is very different and even if things look good on the outside it is hard to see what is going on with all the scarring in the deeper tissue layers. well I was thinking of slimming world too and got the starter pack from them online as not always time or cash to go weekly, but not really tried properly yet. Now have neck problem flared up and have to have MRI. On Saturday so feel like falling apart really. Felt bit miffed as I had just got back to feeling ok and now this and off work again taking loads of painkillers. Anyway, it's interesting as so much says having this op doesn't lead to weight gain and yet so many people seem to find that it does! Hormones do play havoc with everything though. Hope all goes well for you and hopefully no more surgery??

      Hiya

I hope no more surgery too, you seem to be going through the wars too bless x I hope your MRI is ok, regarding weight gain yeah I think it's because we still so swollen and relaxing I think it's the surgery, my first HRT was not string enough I was I a right mess with it, I'm now in a stringer dose and still cry on a daily basis ha x I have been saying I will join slimming world for ages kept putting it of but now I've been it's great my consultant is lovely so funny makes it worth it and you can get membership free in woman's own then you just pay £4.95 per week. Worth a go to try it xxxxx

Another effect from a TAH that doctors will rarely tell you.  My breasts were already large and I was reducing my weight through exercise.  Then I had the surgery.  About 2 years after my TAH they ballooned so much my back was constantly hurting.  I felt like a cow.  My pain management doctor put me on some natural supplement that helps rid the body of toxins.  My breasts did reduce (although they are still big) to the point where it is bearable.   Yes, it is caused by the hormone imbalance (IMO) that occurs after the surgery--sometimes years later.  If you google "large breasts after hysterectomy" I think you would be shocked at how many women this has happened to.

If I was told less than half of what this surgery would do to me I never would have had it.

To all ladies asking about weight gain--I'll bet that like me you were never told this is a natural side effect from the surgery.  Doctors either lie or don't tell the whole story because you might change your mind.  Average weight gain after a hysterectomy due to disrupted hormones ranges from 35 lbs. (about 2.5 stone if I did the calculation right) and up.  And it is weight that is almost impossible to get rid of.

Don't let anyone tell you this happens because you are eating wrong and not exercising.  It is caused by hormone upset and there is very little that can be done unless those hormones are balanced in some way.  Your body, IMO, just makes fat regardless of what you eat because everything has been turned on its head when we are castrated (if your ovaries were removed as well).
