Hi everyone looking for some help If possible. My dad has one kidney he lost one to repeat kidney stone damage. He had a creatinine of 150 in February. He was put on fenofibrate a month and half ago for cholesterol and last week we had the levels checked cholesterol was great but creatinine was 320 and gfr 18!!! I did research and seen that this med can do this to renal patients. Anyone with any experience or feedback. I'm so worried... Called nephrologist today he ordered an ultrasound for next week and I mentioned the meds he said yes stop that pill but he thinks might also be from another possible stone!?!! Any advice or previous experience ? Thanks so much

    Hello Paula ,

1977 is the year I was born ! (Lol) well it looks like only basing it from my dads experience that they're going on the right track of diagnosing the problem. Your dads kidney was removed , as for my dad his kidneys ckf were at 5% function . Is he having pain ? As we know stones hurt . My dad unfortunately is now getting dialysis . He's 75 years old , and I recall when they saw some abnormalities on ultrasound of his kidneys , plus execessive potassium it all went down hill for him ! Not saying this is the case with your dad . Do you know what's the percentage of his kidney he has left?

      Hi Erick

Thanks for the reply. July 19 gfr was 18. He feels great no pain but he did have pain 2-3 weeks ago so bad that he was about to go to the ER. He knew it was a stone moving along the pain is all to familiar. Then it subsided but last week he had a little twinge again and then nothing. So who knows if it's lodged?? How's your dad doing on dialysis? Was he feeling anything when his function went that low before he started dialysis?

      Thanks

At the time he wasn't feeling anything major . That day my sister called me to say that my dads kidney function wasn't good . Then I remember that morning I had a major panic attack ! I was getting ready for work . It was as though it was an intuition that something bad was going to happen. Anyways my sis called crying hysterically that the doc said to take him to the hospital urgent because his potassium was off the roof . Through the process they did of course blood work , scan , then a biopsy of his kidney . On top of that he had a pre cancer cell that can develop myeloma . They found a decease called gamapathy something . Basically eating his kidney not literally of course . He was on emergency dialysis they put the catheter on his neck to begin the treatment . They had to wait like months until his vein in his arm mature to insert the fistula in his arm . His levels went up and they took him off dialysis . Then my poor dad began hell with in months . Not eating, losing weight , vomiting , very itchy , fragile . Then I emailed doc prior how was it that you took him off if he looks like ****!! They had him going again . He felt better than he was before . But as any other patient on this they have good and bad days . Keep in mind my dad is up there with age . He's 75 . There's been occasions that he has lost conscience and had convolsions and foam from mouth . Doc believe that too much fluid was taken out during dialysis . Plus his blood pressure will drop which is a common thing with patients on treatment . Then b/p was super high . Another effect of this . But in conclusion to my long summary your dads case seems different .

So sorry to hear what your dad has gone through. Parents getting older really sucks! And age of 75 isn't old they shouldn't have to endure this. Lots of prayers for this week I'm hoping that stopping this cholesterol med may help but who knows how long that could take to leave his system. It want until today as I have been racking my brain to say why did the function drop rapidly that I thought of this new pill he started couple months ago. Really the Drs should of picked this up not me .... sad good luck to your dad sending prayers your way.
