Increase in LS?
Posted , 8 users are following.
Hi, this is a question for the old timers on here. I've been here for five years, and it feels as if the volume of traffic is increasing.
1) Is there an increase in diagnosis? which would be a good thing.
2) Are more people getting LS? A bad thing
3) Are people more open to talking about LS?
4) Is this forum getting better known?
5) Is it due to increased use and knowledge of internet resources? and does that mean younger (more tech savvy) people are getting diagnosed quicker?
6) all of the above?
I feel it's really striking how many posts there are right now, compared with five years ago. Or maybe, due to time and algorithms I am just seeing more of them... Any thoughts?

My gynecologist said that it is quite a common disease which often goes undiagnosed but the fact that there is so little research done about the causes and finding a cure is very worrying.
Although steroids do the trick of soothing, they are acting like a toxic plaster. I certainly do not want to spend the rest of my life having to use it.......

Hi there
Yes I have noticed (and commented to my daughter just a few days ago) that I seem to be getting so many more email notifications now. Much more noticeable in the last month or two.
I asked myself the same questions - sad if it's becoming more prevalent. Good if it's being talked about more. Good if the forum is being more visible.
Not sure of the answers!

👋, also good in a way if there is more diagnosis because it means that at least the women won’t be treated for simple yeast or trush....to get no relieve and learn much later that it wasn’t trush. It’s sade to get diagnosed but if more women are getting diagnosed maybe research will start one day...

I agree with "all of the above" and plan to ask my doctor next visit if she is seeing more patients with LS.
Thank heavens for this forum!

I do have a horrible feeling that more and more women are getting LS.

On reflection, I think it might have a lot to do with diagnosis. Back when I first got on here, everyone's doctor was saying it's a rare disease, now a few people are saying that they have doctors who say it's surprisingly common. Having said that, there do seem to be more younger women than before, but again that might be because they are more likely to use the internet to browse symptoms.
Then again, we do have more toxic lives and some of us older ones were young when the chemical load on our bodies wasn't understood in the way it is now. It's difficult to unpick multiple causalities. I do hope it's not that more women are getting LS, just that LS is getting better understood.
