You usually have to stay at a dosage for sometimes maybe even up to 12 weeks for it to work. The thing about sertraline is that it initially helps first with anxiety. Then slowly, once the med has achieved a certain level in your system, it will help with the depression. The last time I got back on this in 2016 and I am still on it, it took like 4-6 months for me to feel alive again. Before that, I felt like a zombie going through the motions. First my OCD thoughts/anxiety died down. Then I felt affected, like I had no emotions, like I desperately wanted to cry and release all these tears but couldn't, as if my tear ducts weren't working. I got back on it around early Nov 2016 and didn't feel normal - like I could smile and notice the sun again - until May 2017.
Hang in there and prayers coming your way!

When my daughter went through this, she started having some good days around the 6 week mark, but it was a real roller coaster, up days and down days...then around the 12 week mark it was like a miracle. When I was really feeling hopeless while caring for my daughter, this post from Kate from this forum REALLY helped me! Here is her second post, which contains a link to her first post. I urge you to read the first post - my daughter's journey exactly mirrored Kate's:
Hi everyone,
For those of you who haven't followed my posts this has been my second time on sertraline and I can finally 13 weeks later say it has worked again 😃
Check out my first success story post for more detailed information:

Both times I have been on this medication it has taken 12-13 weeks to feel better. I was off work for 3 months and have now gone back and have been fine.
Doctors will say 6-8 weeks but with my experiences I still felt awful then. Please try and stick with it and perservere it is so worth it.
