Increased depersonalization after starting new fitness routine?

My main goal for this year was to start working out. Mainly to lose weight but to also see if it could help my chronic fatigue. While I suffer from chronic fatigue, I also suffer from anxiety, depression and depersonalization. I'm on medication for both the anxiety and depression and while it seems to be doing one hell of a good job for both of those, my depersonalization still sticks around. It was a bit better this past month but once I started my healthier diet and working out (though just yoga at the moment), that feeling of being out of my body started hitting me hard all throughout the day.

I know a big part of depression and anxiety is feeling comfort in a routine and not wanting to go out of that routine. Could it just be a part of that and that's the reason why my depersonalization is coming back so much? Because of the change in my routine? And if anyone else has had this same problem before, I'd love to hear about your experience as well!

Thank you!

Hi Alex. I also suffer from depression and anxiety due to having  chronic Lyme disease. I also noticed some depersonalization during this time. My doctor has  put me on a drug to help me with all three and it seems to be working. I plan on staying on it until the specialists have my lime disease in remission. The name of the medicine is Mirtazapine. I am on 15 mg which is the lowest dose. I wanted to share this with you because it has help me out with a substantial amount. If you wouldn’t mind sharing what your doctor put you on I would totally appreciate it. I truly hope you feel better real soon.

Thank you for your comment! I'm currently on 20mg of Celexa and soon 15mg of Buspirone, with 0.5mg of Ativan typically once a day as a boost.

I’ve also been on the Ativan. I was taking two pills in the morning because I couldn’t take the anxiety. That’s 2 mg of Ativan a day! I finally got scared of the medicine and cut it down to 1 mg a day. It’s very hard knowing what the right thing to do is when you feel this way so I totally understand how you’re feeling. Hopefully we both get better real soon! There has to be answers out there

Oh, absolutely! If I go on any trips or go to any places I'm not 100% familiar with, I definitely get the depersonalization. I know DP is mostly your brain protecting itself. Maybe it just does that as well when you're faced with foreign or unfamiliar environments.

Yoga is great.. Exercising is great. You may want to consider something more like crossfit or class based excersice.. They may be much more of a Distraction to your brain.. Crossfit type places have great communities and you will find yourself keeping busy both physically and socially and the energy will calm you down and burn. Off that extra stress reducing anxiety. Yoga is great too.. But sometimes it can be too reflective and quite. Good luck
