Increased dosage to 40mg

Hi

I have spoken to my GP tonight after experiencing anxiety and a general flat feeling. I have been taking 20mg of Fluoxetine since the middle of June. For 4 weeks I suffered awful side effects but persevered and felt better and better each day. However I have continued to feel flat, and slightly disengaged, drained and tired particularly around my time of the month! The doctor told me to up the dose to 40mg which I have done today. She told me to take the 40mg at the usual time of day and said that I wouldn't suffer the side effects again as my body is now used to the Fluoxetine.

Has anyone else upped their dosage and had a positive outcome without suffering side effects?

Thanks

Sally

    Hi everyone,

I have been taking fluoxetine for about 4-5 years now and had really bad side effects at the start it lasted about a month. My dr trued to up my fluoxetine a few months ago to 40mg and i didnt up it i stayed taking the 20mg as i didnt want to experience the side effects again. Can you give me your experiences please.

Im 30 and a single parent and due to depression i am not working at the minute but over the last 2 weeks im at the point if i can not sleep of a night but once my daughter goes to school i go to sleep until she returns from school at 3.15pm.

Im really looking for help as im feeling the fluoxetine is no longer working at 20 mg and i do not want to be aleeping all day and awake all night as i do t want my daughter to pick up on this habbit either aalso wanting to get back in to work but no way could i feeling like this!

Is upping to 40mg worth the chance of the side effects and is it likely?

    Thank you. Katie x

I've been on 20mg Prozac for 20 years, I was diagnosed as what is now known as ADHD - 30 years ago when i was diagnosed it was known as Hyperactivity Disorder! I was kickd out of primary school and had to go to a school which deals with emotional, social and behavioral issues.  I went through Mainstream school and it never got any easier!  I was "Statemented" at mainstream which was very handy to be fair!

Into teenage years life got more fast paced, suffering insominia but for weeks on end with no sleep at all and no tiredness (never was i medicated, but to be fair, I wonder if it would have helped).  Now nearly 40, i've been on prozac for 20 years and today i have had to have it upped to 40mg as the depression has got a lot worse, hoping it makes a difference.  I've never had side effects from the drug, unless i miss one, then it a different story.  If you miss a few, you can feel, only what can be described as electrical shocks in your head!  You must be wened of them if ever you want to stop.

Hey everyone, I'm not sure if this has been discussed or the right thread, but my MD is looking to increase my dose to 40 Michael as well. I suffer from premature ejaculation and I was trying a dose of 10 mg with no real impact. Any thoughts? Seems like a big move and I don't suffer from depression, but I'm not sure the trade off is worth it. Anyone with PE experience? Wives/ladies, feel free to comment.

Was prescribed to 20 mg which seemed to kind of make me feel better but I still felt irritated. I started taking 2 a day, 40mg, and I feel amazing! I use to have really bad thoughts and they seemed to have just disappeared. I can also handle situations so much easier. It hasn't seemed to help with my OCD behavior yet, but she said it could be ADHD also. Only side effects are a little stomach upsetness.

Has anyone ever been sweating at night on Prozac

Yes I have that quite often. Some nights I don't but there are others when I do. I have been told and read that it is normal.   How long have you been on and at what dose?

Yes, I upped my dosage from 20mg to 40mg.  I am doing much better.  I feel great!

Hi everyone, I've taken fluoxetine 20 mg before a couple of years ago and it worked fine, recently started again.

I'm currently day 9 of Fluoxetine... Started with 1 day of 5 mg then increased to 10 milligrams from day 2 and on day 7 onwards I've been taking 20 mg.

My side effects are extreme anxiety in the morning and a sense of panic and dread throughout the day. As if there's a dark cloud over my head :-( I also get nausea and brain fog and really bad fatigue.

My thoughts are also very negative and hurtful towards me and I end up ruminating and getting stuck in negative thought loops. I generally feel WORSE than before starting the meds. I feel a sense of angst and misery.

I've been seeing everyone in the forums say it takes a few weeks for the side effects to go away some say 4-6 weeks, others say 6-8 and I've even seen someone say TWELVE weeks!

Which is it? Should I increase the dose? Change meds? :-(

Would really appreciate any advice or encouragement.

      Hello Matthew,

How do you feel now? Did you up your dose? I'm restarting and am on day 30 with all the side effects. I didn't have any last time. Did you have insomnia this time, and did it go away?

Can increased dosage of proza c to 40mg be taken all together or morning and evening

Hi, I have been on 20mg for 3 weeks. The side effects are awful but I am noticing a difference in mentality so that gives me strength. I have insomnia. I usually waske up in the middle of the night for 3-4 hrs then sleep again for 2hrs. I slept through the night last night for the first time in 3 weeks but here I am awake again tonight.

I have teeth/jaw clenching and bought a mouth guard like 3 days in. If I use it, it helps with that but it took a few days to get past sore gums from the guard. I didn't use it tonight and biting my tongue is what woke me up.

I am eating less. I have to be losing weight I bet. Between eating less and running around all the time, Mach 10, I call it. I have lots more energy than I used to. I would eat a lot and have no energy. I am 33 yrs old and 204lbs before meds. I just weighed myself and I am still 204. Ugh, oh well. The energy increase is still good. 😏

I see the doctor in 10 days. I am considering talking to him about an increase because I am "still in my head" as my husband calls it; obsessing on thoughts. I just don't want more or continued side effects. 😞

My Doctor upped me to 40mg. I am already feeling the side effects again. Here we go for another month. As long as I feel better.

Actually, I feel no side effects at all from the increase now. I do also feel a lot better. Here's hoping!
