Increased heart rate

Hi, I've was diagnosed with costochondritis officially back in July. When I am in pain and sometimes just before it gets bad I get some symptoms that I'm confused about. I end up with sweats and elevated heart rate normally a few minutes before the pain gets bad. The elevated heart rates seems to come and go and can last for a few minutes to hours. When I try to sleep sometimes it will wake me up. I also have fibromyalgia which I was officially diagnosed with in 1986 and IBS-D (was C at the beginning) since 1966.

I am trying my best to handle all the pains but the heart rate and sweats bother me a lot.

I went to the ER twice because I thought it was a heart attack coming on. I've had EKGs, blood test and xrays all were normal. I recently seen a cardiologist and had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hrs. The doctor was amazed to see that at time it went up to 129. During the 24 hrs my lowest was 51 and highest was 129. They have no idea why. I am scheduled for a stress test and an echocardiogram to be done.

All these symptoms are just making me nervous because no one knows what is causing it. I was told it could be costochondritis or even fibromyalgia but I haven't found any thing in my research about the sweats and heart rate issues.

I'm 60 yrs old and I'm a widow and alone. I'm always concerned and worried.

Thank you for reading this.

shelley_11097, I'm sorry you are going through that. Mine has never gone that high. I'm very uncomfortable and get shaking when it goes above 110.

Hi shelley_11097, hope you are feeling better. Still no answers to what is happening. Doctors say stress, ekg, echo, and blood all normal. Nothing has changed for me.

You know, it sounds like you've done everything you can so far, your situation is being monitored, and you are scheduled for more tests, so try to stop worrying and let the doctors handle it. Have you had any physical therapy for the costocondritis? Do you get any exercise? Both may help reduce your anxiety. Also, try Insight Timer (phone app) and do some guided meditations. Amazing at getting anxiety under control. Hope this helps.

There is a possibility it could be atrial fibrilation. Do you take a small aspirin every day?

Have you had a d-dimer blood test?

Unless you're a doctor, why would you give someone medical advice? She's under the care of a cardiologist.

moon53540, they don't every blood test there is. The cardiologist has done everything at least twice at differect time. I use to take an aspirin but since my cancer I was told not to take any. Cardiologist said it wasn't necessary.

I didn't give any medical advice, I gave a possible suggestion of what her symptoms might be. That is what this website is for. I have written symptoms on this website and people have offered me suggestions who aren't doctors. I was misdiagnosed with costochondritis, indigestion and anxiety for ages and only found out last year I had multiple pulmonary emboli. I had to go and organise the CT scan myself because my doctors and cardiologist told me nothing was wrong. If I hadn't organised my own CT I may not have been alive today. No one gave me a d-dimer blood test when I went to A&E that is why I asked the question. I asked if she took an aspirin every day because I wondered if the doctor advised that. I wasn't telling her to do that. Giving possible suggestions and asking questions isn't giving medical advice.

Well good luck I wish you all the best. It sounds like you have had a really hard time with your health. I hope everything is ok with your stress test and your echo and I hope your symptoms are nothing bad and clear up.

When you are going through bad times reach out to friends and family members because company can sometimes really help with anxiety.

moon53540, thank you. I am on my own here. After my health issues got worse family and friends seemed to disappear. can't depend on any of the now.

that is really sad, but I experienced something similar with a couple of people when I was ill. Some people can be really selfish. Maybe look to join a support group for people who have had breast cancer. Cancer charities can offer this sort of thing usually. Maybe look to start a hobby nearby like art or something creative you enjoy. Creative people can be more open with their emotions and empathetic. There are some caring people out there but you have obviously had a lot of bad luck with friends. I wish you all the best.
