Increased itching..

I'm currently on Advantan ointment once a day before bed. I was on an ultra potent steroid for 2 months before this. Ive had awful burning but that seems to have settled, some days are bad but it's been replaced with an itch now. This itch has only started recently. It's mainly around the clitoris and upper labia minora. Sometimes it feels like a tickle. I don't understand, being on the steroid shouldn't it help? I've looked numerous times at the area where it's itchy and I haven't noticed anything that has changed.

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow. But I'm wondering if anyone has itching despite using the medication?

Thanks.

Are you using enough? If I put sufficient on it is well controlled. An amount the size of a pea is not enough. I prob use almost half a teaspoon to cover all areas. They allow me one tube per month.

You make a good point Kathleen. Ive been using a really tiny amount. I don't think I can use any less if I tried! I was worried that because it's so thick (looks like Vaseline) and stays on the skin while I sleep that less is better. But maybe I'm putting on too little. Tonight I applied slightly more, especially on the clitoris as the itch has been awful around there. Will see how it goes. Thanks for the advice Kathleen.

How big is the tube? I don't have it in front of me but I think it's 15g.

You will eentually start getting a thickening of the skin and scarring with the itch. At least I did.  I stopped and reversed this by using a witch hazel spray. I then rubbed in a small amount of 100% (or 99%) aloe vera gel. Helps with the itch. After I was on the way with healing I started the Manuka honey...just a dab rubbed in at night time and wear a pad or cotton panties. I've had this for years and it is finely in remission. I tried several other medical remedies...they would help temporarily...some made it worse. This is what has worked for me. Give it a chance for a few weeks and see what kind of results you get.  Nothing to lose and hopefully much to gain.

Does the thickening and scarring happen only if you actually itch and scratch the skin, or does it occur on its own? I always refrain from scratching no matter how bad it gets.

Thanks, I will give those things a go.

I scratched early on when I thought it was a yeast infection. The thickening started later when I wasn't scratching...so not sure.  But I'm sure refraining from scratching would definitely be beneficial and hopefully would avoid it. Hopefully you will get some other replies on this.

Also -try sitting in a baking soda bath (1/3 cup) and baking soda rinses after every bathroom visit (three pinches in a spray bottle/Perin bottle)  This really made a difference for me.

How's your stress level and sugar intake?

Stress levels aren't great. I find that when I feel the itch, that in itself brings on anxiety. It's a very bad cycle to be in.

Baking soda spray spray (can't thank you enough Hani) works a treat!

I think you will have improvement with more ointment addressing the itch. The only other thing I use is dermeze which is like a Vaseline and is for moisturising. I have been told not to wet it too much. I have a bidet which I use no more than twice a day after advice from my specialists. My advantan is a 15 g tube.
