Increased pain after posterior repair 4 weeks post-op

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am just wondering if anyone else had any increase in discomfort after posterior repair surgery? I am four weeks post op and the pain had eased up until the last few days. I have had an increase in discomfort especially right before having to use the bathroom? I have been taking stool softeners still and have increased my fiber intake so that I wont get constipated. It has started bothering me at night and is more of a constant discomfort. I have been up doing things around the house (no heavy lifting) and going for walks as I anticipate my surgeon sending me back to work this week. Which to be honest I am nervous about. I work in a hospital and am on my feet and walking the majority of the day. Thanks for any help 😃

This happened to me, too. I remember a post from some time ago noting that this is pretty common. I think that some if the stitches start coming out so the pressure ends up on the still tender tissue, which ramps the pain back up for a while. I didn't start doing better again until about week six, I think. Its a rough recovery process for many. I'm so sorry you're having to struggle through this, and i hope you feel better sooner than later.

      Hi Rammia,

Thanks for your kind words and response. Saw my surgeon today who said the stitches haven't started dissolving yet and the discomfort he believes is due to the pelvic floor muscles tightening up in response to the surgery. I go back in 2 weeks and hopefully they will have done their thing and not be there anymore and I can start on pelvic floor therapy. It surely is a tough recovery! There have been many times I regret going through with the surgery. Although I'm sure once I am filly recovered I will feel differently!

    hello

this us very common after pelvic floor repairs. the stitches start to loosen and the tissues become sore.

I never felt it myself but I've heard iff other ladies on here year ago. this can also be a sign yiur on yiur feet fir too long and the repair be ones strained.

there was a gynae nurse on here at one ti e and she always said that we should not be on our feet all day and too not return to work till at least 8 weeks, more if yiur job is physically demanding.

yiu have had a lot of stitches and a lot of work done do try and rest as much as yiu can.

      hi welshgirl

just thought i would update. Saw the surgeon today and explained that i had an increase in discomfort. He did examine me and said that everything looked great. He was surprised that the stitches were still there and intact but suspected that they would start dissolving over the next week or so. He said in his opinion the discomfort I was having was being caused by the fact that the muscles of my pelvic floor have tightened up in response to surgery. In go back in 2 weeks and hopefully the stitches will ha e dissolved and then start on pelvic floor therapy. Thankfully he has given me another 4 weeks off to continue to recover! Thank you for your response to my post!

This happened to me 3 weeks after rectocele repair. i had a post-op infection. The pain was terrible. Antibiotics cleared it up within a couple of days. It does coincide with stitches coming loose too. Might be worth seeing your consultant sooner. Your pain should gradually ease, not get worse

      hi rayray,

I had an infection about a week or so after the surgery which thankfully I caught early. I was having a lot of discomfort at that time but once it started clearing up the discomfort started to ease up until just the other day. I saw the surgeon today who after doing an exam felt that the discomfort was in part due to the fact the the pelvic floor muscles have tightened up in response to the surgery. My stitches haven't started to dissolve yet so hopefully when I go back in 2 weeks they will have dissolved and i can start on that. Thank so much for your response to my post!
