Increasing Sertraline from 50mg

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have been on 50mg Sert for about 12wks (anxiety and depression) and altho I feel much better, I am still not 'quite there' with the anxiety part of my illness; I still wake with the 'morning dread' (for no reason) but this feeling of nervousness, fear, anxiety does tend to settle as the day goes on. By the evening I do feel more or less 'normal'

My GP is to review this px in a few days, and I am thinking about upping to 75mg (initially) but I felt truly awful when I first started the Sert (nausea, increased anxiety etc, etc) I am really hoping I do not get a repeat of the side effects on increase ?

Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated:-)

Thanks !

Hi, your doing the right thing by speaking with your Dr. your prescribing physician is the only one that needs to tell you if you need to raise your dose. That being said I’m on 50 mgs as well and have been for about 8 weeks, I too feel it’s working for me but I also have the morning anxiety to and it gets better during the day. Lots of people get this and for most it gets better with time, my morning anxiety has been improving much since I started a few months back! Good luck

Also I forgot to mention your side effects should not be near as bad from a 25mg increase as opposed to the start up side effects!

If your doctor ups your med, don't freak out. The side affects aren't as bad if any. You already been through the hardest part and you know that its the med doing it, I had mine increased from 50 to 100 and so far very slight side effects and when i do have one, I tell myself I'm not dying its the med

Hope this helped. Let us know how your doing.

I would definitely suggest increasing, when I was on Sertraline I was also very scared to increase from 50mg to 100mg because my side effects were so horrific in the beginning but I still had a bit of anxiety remaining. I got the courage to do it at 9 weeks and I had no additional side effects and the anxiety was completely gone within a week. Good luck smile

      Sorry!

I sent the reply to your comments to myself (duh)

You will see it in the conversation, I asked about how you went up - 75, or straight up to 100 ?

Oh, thanks for that .... :-)

I felt blooming terrible for 4 weeks when I first started, and can hardly bare the prospect of a repeat performance, yet I still have some degree of 'morning anxiety' on 50mg (but overall much better than I was, the depression is completely gone)

I am def going to ask my GP on Mon to go up ...

May I ask if you went up to 75, then 100, or straight up to 100mg please ?

Great that you are very much improved x
