Increasing T4 to t3 conversion
Posted , 3 users are following.
Hi my thyroid levels are low currently and I take natural thyroid meds rather than levothyroxine as I don't seem to convert from t4 to t3 very well.
My question is, is there anything I can do to increase the conversion and help reduce any reverse t3 in my system? I find t3 medication quite stimulating and I struggle to increase it so wondered if I could add some levothyroxine into the mix and do something to help the conversion issue?
Any advice would be much appreciated

Mercury and other chemical toxicity can mess up T3 levels.
Other causes of lack of T3 conversion are liver toxicity and gut problems. If you're young you may not even notice symptoms of gut and liver problems. SINCE 80% of the T4 to T3 conversion happens in the gut and liver, improving the health if these organs can be extremely healing!
Gluten free paleo style diet, with well cooked vegetables (fork tender or softer) can go a long way towards reducing autoimmune disease and increasing nutrition.
essential amino acids are extremely helpful in speeding healing, as they supplement protein. Protein deficiency can result from poor diet and gut problems.

Thanks for the info! Are there any particular amino acids you would recommend specifically for this? I'm taking so many supplements I'm rattling but sometimes it's difficult to know which ones are best. I take zinc and vitamin C as well as Magnesium and an array of other supplements. I struggled to go fully paleo but have cut out gluten and reduced dairy significantly while trying to increase my protein intake

HI Caz, sounds like you're doing the right things with your diet. Just something to consider, I read a bunch of posts on chronic pancreatitis and feel its very related to thyroid condition. Once I started adjusting my diet for the chronic pancreatitis, I could avert the thyroid flares!
I use essential amino acid complex. sometimes I take a extra phenylalanine.
I don't know if thus helps, but I've used otc prenatal multivitamins. I also have a friend with thyroid disease who discovered the same trick. Treat the malnutrition and you resolve a lot of thyroid symptoms.

hi, I've just bought a book by Dr Izabella Wentz called Hashimito's Protocol to try and get the information I need to try and help myself. In the UK we find great difficulty in getting T4 checked and It's impossible to check T3.
The nutritional advise given is apparantly beneficial
I wish you well with your care.

Hello,
The game is changing! A blood test has shown I have low cortisol. So I'm having tests in 5 days to see if I have Addisons Disease or some other problem.
