Indentation in scar

any advice on having an indentation (a big dip) in the middle of the incision??? I had my total hip 5 months ago and it looked smooth until a few days ago. I was shocked to see a big dent! It is still numb and tingly. Also gets sore sometimes.

Hi Sandra! I'm 9 months post op and I still have a dent in my hip. My surgeon said to continue with exercises and walk as much as possible. Also he also suggested that I try to stand on my operated leg by itself to strenghten and settle the hip into place.

He said that that dent is caused by the muscle/fat in leg. Like having liposuction. Fat and muscle re-distibute.

Last week my physio tole me to reverse the 'stairs procedure', and lead up with the operated leg to strengthen it - it seems to have worked, as I was literally running around at physio class today !!!!!!!!!!!

      Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeee

      Happy bunny today !

That is brilliant news Graham - I am so happy for you. How many weeks post op are you?

      3.5 weeks - or 26 days.

As my physio said today, never mind your first operation, just count from the last one, that's what you are recovering from now.

I want to get out and about, but he told me in no uncertain terms to rest for the rest of the day following the 1 hour workout with him.

My entire incision is dented in and I had Anterior approach, very noticeable especially when turned sideways.

I'm three months post op and all of my incision is dented in. It's a mess and it's numb and I am still unable to lie on that side.

I am 6 months out on anterior approach, your dent is caused most likely because fat does not go under scars, I have scars from other surgeries and can tell you that its the same in other places. Seems our fat will budlge on the sides of the scar and not under it, giving a dent or fissure like appearance. A Dr. told me the only way to make it look better is lipo in the areas around it. I still have swelling around my hip, I just weat shorts and longer undies.

Unfortunatly the dent stays forever...I had my LTHR in May 2015 and it's still there, It still has some numbness but it is not sore..

When they put us back together they forgot to distribute the fat....my Dr. shrugged it off when I showed him....rolleyes

The exact same thing has just happened to me in the past week.  I just started, at 6 months out,  to feel a sharp pain around my scar, after having a very successful surgery and rehab. I was shocked when I saw a huge belly button in the middle of my hip!!

Well I had my surgery 7 months ago this last month I've had trouble with it partially coming out where you can't stand on it and you have to sit on a hard surface to get it to go back and all the way into place and the pain when it does that is like ouch but as soon as it goes back in instantly no pain my scar is all four fingers can go in side that I'm not that heavy of a person I mean I'm probably 30 lb overweight right now and it is you know on your butt and of course there's fat there but it's way and dented I can it's like a handle I can grab the front part muscle it is sore to the touch at the very bottom of the incision but I have the groin pain is back they're going to go in on Wednesday to manipulated and see at what position it starts to come out of place so my question is has anybody had to have this manipulation done or where their hip comes out of place partially
