Infection after THR

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had my HTR 15 days ago and all is progressing well,my staples were taken out Tuesday 25th March

This morning after doing my exercises I got myself ready for a shower when I noticed the top of my

wound(small incision)was leaking a very small amount of puss,I cleaned it with some anti bacterial

cream and put a waterproof dressing on while I showered......Has anyone else experienced this and should I be concerned?

Needless to say I will be calling my GP at 2pm but being Friday I'm not sure when I'll get an

appointment, any advice on how I should deal with this?

Thanks..

Since this is the weekend I would contact the hospital. The ward where you were treated or the consultant's secretary should be able to find someone to give you advice. My hospital had a dedicated helpline to a specialist nurse (Mon-Fri office hours) but not all hospitals organise this.

This is a surface infection at the moment but making sure it stays that way is critical. If you have a clinical thermometer take your temp, if it goes up or the messy bit on the would spreads, then go to A&E and make sure you see the duty orthopaedic registrar as a minimum.

Good evening fellow Hippies...the Doc had a look and decided (as you thought Chris )to give me a weeks

course of very strong antibiotics but also added it was a good idea to see her instead of leaving it....

    Time for a nightcap!

    Medicinal I hope!!!

Glad it's sorted...take care and make sure you wash your hands with anti bacterial handwash before you go near your wound....especially when you think its all healed...we get a bit complacent but not worth taking the chance....use the bio oil as soon as its all healed..it will soften the tissue around it which for me is still a bit hard in places...take care
