Infection or not?

I'd like some opinions please on whether you think I might have an infection or whether I am just under the weather.

I am 10 weeks post op. Everything has been pretty good, I am back at work on short hours (and I only ever work 2 1/2 days anyway), walking around 5k a day and had got to the point I was barely noticing the surgery at all.

Yesterday I have suddenly started feeling sore again. It feels once again like it is rubbing and almost prickly and hot down there. There is no discharge other than normal levels and a tiny amount of blood yesterday. At the same time I have started feeling under the weather tired (no walking today!) and achy and just generally unable / unwilling to want to do anything at all. I am concerned that teamed together this could be the early signs of an infection.

I am however possibly prone of over thinking this. I had unrelated surgery last November after which I started feeling tired and run down and it turned out it was the start of an infection which left me back in hospital for a week. I am therefore possibly being paranoid.

I a toying with seeing a GP tomorrow but equally I don't want to waste their time.

What would you do??

See your GP Claire it's very difficult for us to tell you what the problem is.

I would definetly see a GP tomorrow.  I did after my first surgery and it was an infection.  I am so glad I did.  The earlier treated, the better the recovery. I think Matron would agree.  She does give the best advice!  Good luck Claire.

    Hi Claire,

So glad to hear him well things have been progressing and sorry to hear you are having problems with possible infection, best to see your GP as soon as you can, if nothing else for piece of mind.

Your not annoying them that's what they are there for, if none of us went too see them they would be out of a job! As Dorothy said best to get treatment early for quicker recovery if it is an infection.

Look after yourself and get plenty rest while ajusting to being back at work .

Yip definately visit Dr. The earlier you catch the infection if it is one, then the quicker you will be better again. Doesn't matter if you see Dr. & it isn't one.

I have been and seen our lovely nurse this morning. She dipped my wee and had a look at the surgery. She said the wee was inconclusive and the stiching all looked fine maybe a tiny bit pink but that could have been from the examination. She has taken a swab.

Both tests have now gone off to the lab to see if anything grows but she said if I do feel worse to go back tomorrow and see the doctor and they will treat me with a generic antibiotic but otherwise wait for the results and if there is anything they can target it.

Still feeling under the weather today but reassured there is nothing major going on down there. I think there is still a good chance the two are unconnected but feel better for going.

Hi Claire sounds like all is well!

Maybe the discomfort you are feeling is just being back at work and on your feet so much or sitting too long.

I always fee irritated and throbbing down below after work due to extended time on my feet and/or to long sitting. Even at home if I overdo things or spend too long out shopping I get a little uncomfortable.

It takes me a couple of days after I cover my shifts at work for all to settle down again. I suppose that when you think about it the pelvic floor has to bear all the weight of the pelvic organs, and the muscles that help support it all are in recovery too.

I do hope that your results all come back clear. Look after yourself and get plenty rest.
