Infections & antibiotics

Could infections & antibiotics cause a flare? The last 3 infections that I've had and treated with antibiotics was followed by a flare. I asked my rheumatologist but he says there is no connection. What are your thoughts on this?

That is a poor response by your doctor. I can tell you that many of my Crohn's flares started after being on antibiotics. These drugs stimulate the immune system and that can trigger a flare. A doctor should know this. I try to avoid taking any antibiotics as they usually cause problems in me, like immune response. I would listen to what your body is telling you.

There can be a connection between the antibiotics and a lupus flare, also antibiotics can clash with lupus meds. I'm not a medical person but have had flares when on antibiotics. The specialist said it was the antibiotics and it was the balancing act between SLE and treating the infection.

Thank you both for your response. I think that it is too much of a coincidence that these flares occur after antibiotics. To be honest I'm not too impressed with my rheumatologist.
