Inflamed muscle in jaw

I had an upper molar tooth extraction in December and was eating mostly on the opposite side of my mouth afterwards to allow the extraction site to heal. Since the beginning of January I started getting pain in my jaw and teeth on the opposite site to the extraction. The pain has got progressively worse and I visited my dentist who thinks it is an inflamed muscle in my jaw. She checked my teeth and said they all seem fine. I am unable to take anti-inflammatories due to having asthma. The dentist told me try hot and cold compresses which I have done but they have had no effect. The pain spreads up the side of my face and along my bottom teeth and is much worse when I lie down so I'm now having problems sleeping. I've been taking paracetamol but they are not really helping. Has anyone else had a similar problem and, if so, do you have any suggestions that might help???

Does the pain come and go? I had an extraction of wisdom tooth on the left side but I have pain on the right side. Mine is more like tingling and pain that comes and goes,

The pain goes away when I'm standing or walking but gets sore when I sit down and is agony when I lie down. I went to the doctor last week and he thinks it's TMJ and has given me jaw exercises to do but also thinks I have an ear infection (which would explain why the pain was getting worse!) so I'm on antibiotics now which has helped a bit but it's still really painful when I eat or lie down. Have you seen your dentist/doctor about yours?

Hi, I am suffering from pain almost a year. I have seen ENT, dentist, surgeon no clue. Mine is a an ear and jaw pain on and off. For example last night I couldn't lie down on my right ear as I heard pulsation and it was annoying. Mine is not ear infection they checked it and saw nothing.

It sounds a nightmare! I've had mine 6 weeks and it's already getting me down. Have you thought about trying acupuncture? It's meant to be good for nerve pain. I was considering trying it if mine doesn't improve.

Yes, I have an another ENT appointment. I also think seeing a surgeon again regarding my partially impacted tooth! I have mildly swollen lymph nodes on the neck too. Then after that I'm thinking about doing acupuncture  too or visitng a naturopathic doctor. Let me know if you find a cure, I hope you'll be pain free soon it's terrible to live like this for a year and not to know anything.

Good luck with your appointment. I'll let you know if I find anything that helps. I'm going to try anything I can think of until I get it resolved as I can't face being like this for months. Hope you feel better soon.
