Inflamed pancreas taking a long time to recovery

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had an inflamed pancreas about 4 weeks ago. It was caused by gallstones and I should recover fully but it seems to me it's taking a long time. I am tired all the time and when we go for walks my 3 year old walks faster than me. I am just wondering how long it will be before my energy levels recover and I can start exercising properly. If I do anything to much I get pains in my side and upper tummy.

You should probably go in for a follow up.

Are you following a better diet / not drinking? Not eating correctly can cause the pain to persist.

Exhaustion is usually felt in pancreatitis when malnutrition kicks in. Your gastroenterologist may give you CREON for digestion and check your bloodwork for anomalies (low vitamins).

If you develop chronic pancreatitis, just understand that exercise can hurt. Light walking of 5 minutes per day is often all that is recommended.

    Best to ask your gastroenterologist.

Vedawms, yes my diet is much better and I am not risking having any alcohol, I wasn't a big drinker anyway so it was easy to leave out for a while. I would be concerned about lack of vitamins as I have cut out some veg and fruit that I would normally eat. I am due to go back for a follow up soon so I will discuss it all with him then. I may of overdone it with the exercise I was out for more than an hour with the kids and the dog. I did that 3 days in a row and felt the pain on the fourth day and haven't been the best since. Looks like I had been over doing it. I am on a protein tablet to keep the acidic levels in my tummy down but I am not familiar with CREON.

      Thanks for Replying

Not to be a jerk, but you shouldn't drink at all. I've learned to regret it.

CREON is super expensive if you don't have insurance, but if you need it, Abbvie will send it to you for free. Ask your doctor if it's appropriate.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
