Inflammation and Swelling?

Hi all,

Yes I have FM and CFS. However my bloods show no inflammatory markers yet I have intermittent inflammation and swellings. I wake up with huge puffy ankles, swellings across my wrist joints, across my knuckles, lumps/bulges on the inside of my elbows, along my neck near the collar bone and even my face has been swollen a few times. The only way to describe it is like fluid filled, fleshy swelling of the skin. I also get this when I try to walk anywhere, especially the ankles.

Has anyone had this or similar? I cannot find anything in FM symptoms that pertains to this description online. I have a GPs appt about meds will mention this to her anyhow.

Thanks Angie x

    Hello everyone,

I had inflammation and swelling in joints for 2 years and saw rheumatologists and many doctors who weren't sure what it is. Again I don't hink I had any rheumatoid markesr in my blood tests either. Then I discovered I had coeliac disease! Almost by mistake, but despite the rheumatologist saying this wouldnt affect the inflammation is totally did! After 3 weeks of not eating gluten and taking some nutritional supplements to aid the gut healing from a nutritionist, I was a new person!

I don't think many doctors in the UK know so much about inflammation being a possible symptom of coeliac disease (whereas for example I spent some time living in Italy and they know a lot more about it!). This is why it took to long to get diagnosed. And perhaps there are folk out there with inflammation problems they're not sure how to treat. I'd recommend asking for a coeliac blood test from your doctor. If it is that it could really help. Not eating gluten is easy compared to inflammation problems every day!

Good luck! Hope it all works out
