Hi I have been waiting for 5 months to see urologist and am self treating for I C . I have cut out protein. Fruit. Tea. Coffee.alcohol. chocolate. Feel a lot better. Is there any fruit I can eat safely. I dread the pain.

Hi there, unfortunately we are all different, something that's fine for one person is agony for another. I cut out fruit altogether for a long time, then tried it again and it didn't make any difference, I was told to have watermelon because it's very alkaline. There isn't one diet that suit all, and I know how hard it is trying to find out what's right for you. I hope your appointment comes soon. Good luck.

Hi, I agree with Christine that everyone is different and even though we should always strive to keep to an alkaline diet, it's up to the individual to tweak as necessary. I buy standard fruits like apples, pears (very good for an alkaline diet), sometimes bananas, and summer fruit like watermelon, peaches, cherries, blueberries and strawberries. In time you get to know what's going to hurt you and what isn't. I'm sorry you have to wait five months to see a specialist. We here in the states are edging ever closer to a single payor system of health care...unless the dastardly congress votes to throw half the population into the disparity of no coverage at all. In that event, waiting five months is better than nothing, I suppose. I also do it myself...keep my diet in check as well as exercise and lots of water. Sometimes I'm amazed at how I can keep the flares at bay..then, when I least expect it, a flare seems to come out of nowhere. It's so much trial and error and I'm sorry to say the docs don't seem to have much of a handle on it. If you are in England, I have been told a few times by women on this forum that taking freeze dried aloe vera is extremely helpful. I use an American brand called Desert Harvest but someone told me a British brand called Pukka has a freeze dried aloe vera capsule that is even better. If you're across the pond you might want to check it out. I have tried numerable times but cannot get it delivered to the states. Also, you say you are off protein. Please be careful...we need protein in our diets. And you don't need animal protein to be healthy. I find vegetarian alternatives that do not seem to bother. I also take many supplements for immune strength. Anyway, best wishes. This IC stuff is no joke. I've had it for a year now and even though I know far better what to do at this juncture, the struggle is ongoing and one has to always stay vigilant or suffer the consequences, I suppose.

Hi Ann It's Dreadful we should have to wait The last scan I had after a bout of nasty infection showed a 'normal healthy pink bladder' How can that be? I have cut out fruit and tomatoes as any fruit make be acidic if underripe also any fruit juices It's trial and error a minefield It's like guess the culprit - a full time job I do hope your appointment comes soon Try ringing for a cancellation Kind regards Sandie

Hi Ann yes it is, I get it a lot, it's a horrible feeling, it seems to get worse if I'm standing for too long.
