Yes,possibly but I think you also have the start of a fungal infection in that nail which has caused the problem. Start treating that infection with any of the medications available to buy in your local chemist/pharmacy or online. Also soak your foot in warm soapy water daily to try and get rid of the hard skin building up around the nail . Gently ease that spike of nail up and away from the surrounding skin while the foot is wet and warm, but dont dig . A pedicure orange stick is helpful.
Make sure you only cut your toenails straight across.
